Initiation of onion callus (allium wakegiaraki) varieties of lembah palu at various light intensities

Abstract: Onion ( Alliumwakegi Araki) is a popular herb and vegetable commodity that can be used as a flavoring dish or traditional medicine. This study aims to determine the effect of light intensity for callus growth. This research was conducted at Plant Biotechnology Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Tadulako University using Completely Random Design (RAL) with a single factor that is light intensity (A) consisting of 3 levels, i.e., 0-100 lux (A1), 300-800 lux (A2) and 1000-4000 lux (A3). The results showed that t… Show more

“…Most of the roots' did not show embryogenic callus. Watery callus indicated a compromise in cell division ability because of low metabolic activity caused by high water content in the cells [19]. The callus on the root and stem explants of srikandi putih maize can be seen in Figure 1.…”

“…Callus texture is one indicator to assess the quality of a callus. Maemunah et al (2019) stated the callus with crumb texture (friable) of cells easily separated into single cells in suspension culture. Callus texture produced based the subculture frequency treatment ( Table 2).…”

“…According to Benítez-García et al (2014) and Maemunah et al (2019), the formation of compact textured callus is driven by the presence of endogenous auxin hormones that are produced internally by explants that have grown to form callus as well as giving growth regulators from the medium. The added PGR can cause changes in plant physiology and biochemistry through the regulation of enzymes.…”
