Differential Response of Clones of Eucalypt to Glyphosate1

-Weed control is commonly performed by the inter-row mechanical weeding associated to intrarow glyphosate directed spraying, causing a risk for drift or accidental herbicide application, that can affect the crop of interest. The objective was to evaluate the response of clones C219, GG100, I144, and I224 of eucalypt (Eucalyptus grandis x E. urophylla) to glyphosate doses of 0, 18, 36, 72, 180, 360, and 720 g of acid equivalent per hectare. The clones showed different growth patterns with regard to height, leaf number, stem dry weight, relative growth rate, net assimilation rate, and relative leaf growth rate. The clones I144 and GG100 were more susceptible to glyphosate, showing the doses required to reduce dry weight by 50% of 113.4 and 119.6 g acid equivalent per hectare, respectively. The clones C219 and I224 were less susceptible to glyphosate, showing the doses required to reduce dry weight by 50% of 237.5 and 313.5 g acid equivalent per hectare, respectively. -In conservation agriculture, mainly under direct seeding, maintaining the vegetation ground cover is essential, since this serves as a reservoir of nutrients which are slowly released to plants by microorganisms. Some authors have sought to study increases in the amount of straw in the soil, in addition to slowing down the process of decomposition, with hormesis being one of the techniques used. This technique states that all chemical substances are both poisonous and nonpoisonous, with only the dosage determining whether they are lethal or not. This study aimed to evaluate the dry weight and agronomic characteristics of a crop of black oat subjected to hormesis. The experimental design was of randomised blocks, with 12 treatments and 4 replications, giving a total of 48 experimental lots. The treatments were: Haloxyfop-R Methyl Ester at dosages of 0.625, 1.25 and 2.50 g ha -1; Glyphosate at dosages of 12.50, 25.00 and 50.00 g ha -1 ; 2,4-D dimethylamine salt at dosages of 100.00, 200.00 and 300.00 g ha -1; Alterbane at a dosage of 500.00 g ha -1; Salicylic acid at a dose of 100 g ha -1 ; and a control. It was concluded that for the subdosages under test, the herbicides 2,4-D at medium dosage and Verdict at low dosage were shown to be the best treatments for conserving straw as ground cover under direct seeding.Key words: Sustainability. Direct-seeding systems.RESUMO -Na agricultura conservacionista, principalmente no plantio direto, a manutenção da cobertura vegetal sobre o solo é essencial, pois esta funciona como reservatório de nutrientes que lentamente serão liberados para as plantas através de microrganismos. Alguns autores têm procurado estudos para aumentar a quantidade de palha presente no solo, além de desacelerar seu processo de decomposição, sendo uma das técnicas utilizadas a hormesis. Essa técnica diz que todas as substâncias químicas são veneno e não veneno, o que faz dela letal ou não, é apenas a dosagem. O trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar a matéria seca e as características agronômicas da cultura da aveia preta submetida à hormesis. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos casualizados com 12 tratamentos e 4 repetições, totalizando 48 parcelas experimentais. Os tratamentos foram: Haloxifope-R Éster Metílico na dosagem de 0,625; 1,25 e 2,50 g ha -1

RESUMO -O tomate (Lycopersicon esculentum) é a segunda hortaliça em importância no Brasil. O controle de plantas daninhas na cultura representa um dos principais componentes do custo de produção, sendo imprescindível para a obtenção de produtividades elevadas e de frutos de qualidade. Neste texto são apresentados de forma detalhada os efeitos adversos da interferência das plantas daninhas sobre a cultura, tanto daquele cultivado a partir de mudas transplantadas como de semeadura direta. Também são discutidos, para diferentes situações de cultivo, aspectos sobre o período crítico de competição das plantas daninhas durante o ciclo da cultura. Por fim, são apresentadas as principais estratégias utilizadas para o controle de plantas daninhas na cultura do tomateiro, por meio de medidas preventivas, culturais, mecânicas e químicas, com base nas informações atualmente disponíveis sobre esse tema.Palavras-chave: Lycopersicon esculentum, herbicidas, manejo integrado, seletividade, período de competição.ABSTRACT -Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum) is the second most important vegetable grown in Brazil. Weed control in tomato culture is one of the main components in crop production costs. However, weed management is indispensable to achieve both high yields and fruit quality. A detailed discussion is presented in this work concerning the adverse effects of weed interference in the crop, both grown from transplanted seedlings and field-sown tomato. Aspects related to the critical period of weed competition during the crop cycle for both growing conditions are also discussed. Finally, the major strategies used for weed management in tomato crops are also presented, such as preventive, cultural, mechanic, and chemical control measures, based on the literature currently available.
