Germacra-1,10Z,4E-dien-12,8α-olides fromMikania micrantha

Abstract: The aerial parts of MIKANIA MICRANTHA from a collection in Paraguay gave, in addition to mikanolide, deoxymikanolide, and miscandenin, five new germacranolides all derived from 14,15-dihydroxygermacra-1(10) E,4 Z-dien-12,8alpha-olide.

“…In M. micrantha was isolated and identified eupalitin, eupafolin, luteolin (65) , mikanin, alpinetin, mikanin-3-O-sulfate (59) (Herz et al, 1975;Nicollier & Thompson, 1981;Boeker et al, 1987;Cuenca et al, 1988;Jiang et al, 2001). In the same specie was identified 3,4',5,7-tetrahydroxy-6-methoxyflavone-3-O-β-D-glucopyranoside by Huang et al (2009).…”

“…However, it has been widely adapted as a medicinal plant, certainly because of the good accessibility, but probably also due to its medicinal effects. Its methanol and/or water extracts show antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Proteus vulgaris and Enterobacter aerogenes (Cambie and Ash, 1994;Ghosh et al, 2008) and sesquiterpene lactones with activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans have been isolated as well (Boeker et al, 1987;Facey et al, 1999;Bakir et al, 2004;Huang et al, 2004), some also showing cytotoxic activity (Cambie and Ash, 1994). The plant collection localities were divided into five major areas: village, garden (home gardens, forest gardens and coconut plantations), wayside, primary-and secondary forest and beach.…”

“…In addition, it has been attracted the attention of natural products chemists because of its antibacterial, antitumor, cytotoxic, analgesic, inflammatory, antiproliferative, and phytotoxic activities [5]–[13]. By consulting literatures, sterols [14], [15], diterpenes [15], polyphenols [16], flavonoids [17][19], and sesquiterpene lactones [4], [14], [20] have been isolated from M. micrantha . However, the antimicrobial constituents were ambiguous, though mikanolide and dihydromikanolide as antimicrobial ingredient of M. micrantha were reported.…”
