Franchir les seuils des partis. Accès au terrain et dynamiques d'enquête

Abstract

Le retour réflexif sur les pratiques d'enquête de dix chercheuses en terrain partisan que propose cet article se nourrit de la présence croissante de débats méthodologiques dans la science politique française. Ces discussions profitent d'un décloisonnement disciplinaire et de l'extension de questionnements longtemps réservés aux terrains lointains des ethnologues 1 . Cet article porte notamment sur l'intersubjectivité propre à toute démarche qualitative supposant une co-présence entre chercheur et enquêtés 2 . Notre objectif est aussi d'insister sur les spécificités d'enquêtes sur des partis politiques, menées par des politistes.Pour appréhender l'accès et le maintien dans un milieu partisan, nous filons la métaphore de la maison : enquêter dans un parti politique équivaut à chercher une voie d'accès adéquate pour tenter de pénétrer dans la maison (par la porte principale, l'entrée de service, la fenêtre ?) puis d'évoluer avec le maximum de liberté dans chacune de ses pièces (sa « base », son sommet, ses différentes « ailes », son grenier, ses dépendances), le plus longtemps possible sans être raccompagnée promptement à la sortie.L'objet partisan présente plusieurs caractéristiques qui modèlent les relations d'enquête. En premier lieu, les partis sont des univers relativement institutionnalisés, pluriels et concurrentiels, structurés par des logiques de pouvoir et des univers d'interconnaissance, où les différents sous-groupes communiquent. Les partis les plus institués sont aussi très visibles médiati-quement, et surinvestis par des commentaires et analyses aux statuts divers, produits par les acteurs partisans eux-mêmes, mais aussi par des journalistes ou encore des essayistes. Il s'agit donc d'univers où la présence d'observateurs extérieurs peut être familière, et où la spécificité du regard scientifique

“…In such ‘presentation strategies’ (Aït-Aoudia, 2010), the status one presents to one’s hosts is also important. As the researchers arrive in the field, they must be able to display an ‘admissible’ status that allows them to be well received – one that encourages hospitality.…”
