Effects of Aluminium–Magnesium Silicate on Newcastle Disease Virus and on recovery of infected chicks

Abstract: Effect of a synthetic Aluminium-Magnesium Silicate (AMS) on Newcastle Disease Virus (NDV) was tested. Equal amounts, of the AMS and of NDV, on a volume to weight (v/w) basis, were incubated for one hour at room temperature, and then centrifuged. The supernatant was tested for NDV titre. Portions of a virulent NDV were similarly incubated with the AMS, and their supernatants tested for morbidity rates on infected chicks. Also, two groups of chicks were infected with virulent NDV intramuscularly (I/m), and by in… Show more

“…This suggests that the electrostatic attraction between the AMS molecules and the viral particles was stronger than that between them and water molecules. [16]. AMS is safe when ingested by man and by animals [5,17].…”

“…The Synthetic AMS has been used for in vivo experiments with chicks, dogs, mice and rats [18][19][20][21][22][23][24][25] without adverse side effects on treated animals. It may therefore be possible to minimize immune suppression due to Ampicillin [1] by reducing its dose and use The Synthetic AMS to improve antibacterial activity of the lower doses.…”

“…The finding that when antimicrobial medicines are stabilized with the Medicinal synthetic Aluminum-magnesium silicate, their best therapeutic effects are obtained with 75% (not 100%) of their recommended doses, has been consistent with all the medicines so far tested. The treatment-strategy improved anti-protozoal and antibacterial efficacies of Suphadimidine, anthelminthic efficacy of Piparazine and antibacterial efficacies of Ampicillin and Cotrimoxazole [14]- [19].…”
