Effect of cooling rates on the weld heat affected zone coarse grain microstructure

Abstract: The effect of a cooling rate on the S690Q quenched and tempered steel welded joint coarse grain heat affected zone microstructure was investigated using a dilatometer with controlled heating and cooling fixture. Steel samples were heated to a peak temperature of 1350 °C and cooled at the different cooling time Dt8/5. A dilatometric analysis and hardness measurements of the simulated thermal cycle coarse grain samples were done. Transformation start and finish temperature were determined using dilatation vs. te… Show more

“…The weldability of mixed joints has not been yet sufficiently investigated and there is deficient literature information on it, especially regarding its use in the construction of transport means. Non-alloy steels might be welded applying various processes, with the best results obtained using the low oxygen methods [9,10]. During the welding of non-alloy steels, micro-jet cooling is employed with an increasing frequency in order to control the structure and to enhance the plastic properties of the joint [7].…”

“…Manufacturers of mobile platforms mounted on vehicles are constantly looking for new solutions that enable the reduction of the extra weight of these additional elements and elevation of the working range of these platforms. In order to increase the properties of platform structures, another goal is to reinforce their tensile strength [3][4][5][6][7][8].…”

“…Sementara HAZ sendiri terdiri dari coarse grain HAZ -CGHAZ, fine grain HAZ -FGHAZ dan intercritical HAZ -ICHAZ. CGHAZ menunjukkan sedikit peningkatan kekerasan dan mode campuran/ patahan microvoid perpaduan, tetapi ketangguhannya sebanding dengan logam dasar [3] dan shown in Figure 1 [4]. CGHAZ menunjukkan kekerasan sedikit naik dan modus campuran aduk/modus patahan campuran microvoid, tetapi ketangguhan sebanding dengan logam dasar [3].…”
