Do environmental influences alter motor abilities acquisition? A comparison among children from day-care centers and private schools

Abstract: -Development occurs in a proper rhythm as result of genetic inheritance and environment factors. This study had the aim to identify some environmental risk factors for the motor development in two groups of healthy children. 100 pre-school aged (five years children) from two day-care centers and a private school were evaluated, in Recife-PE. “…One must consider the different contexts to which these children are exposed to standardize the assessment of functionality, taking into account environmental factors, because the SES is the most important environmental reason that may contribute to the rehabilitation process (21) . Because of the multifactorial and dynamic nature of child development and poverty, the attempt to compare data from study results that explain the association between these two elements is complex (30) , and the methodology used to evaluate both the SES and child development is not uniform among the various studies (1,5,6,8,(30)(31)(32) .…”

“…In this process, it is considered that the environment causes a stimulatory effect that interacts with human biology, producing the behavior (4) . For De Barros et al (5) , the early identification of possible risk situations that may affect the course of development is important to prevent damage throughout life.…”

“…The high number of children in a restricted environment (20) and a greater number of infants being cared by a single caregiver can also be considered adverse conditions since less individual attention is given to each children resulting in less stimulation for acquiring new abilities (18 -20). Added to this, the use of toys unsuitable for the age group or even the poor variation and availability of these toys can affect the motor repertoire (21).…”
