Design and analysis of a multi-core whispering gallery mode bio-sensor for detecting cancer cells and diabetes tear cells

Abstract: Whispering gallery modes (WGM) have revolutionized the field of optical sensors. This paper presents a design and simulation of a novel structure called a “multi-core whispering gallery mode (WGM)” based on multiple evanescent waves coupling for detecting cancer cells and diabetes tear cells. This work is totally simulation based, and the simulation is done by a finite element method based simulation tool. From the simulation, it is expected that the proposed sensor exhibits a sensitivity of 650 nm/RIU, 666.67… Show more

“…Normal and cancerous cells have a specific RI in different parts of every organ of the body. The RI of the normal and cancerous cells for mostly dominating cancers (Basal,Hela, is given in Table . 1 (Chakrabarti et al 2021). Among the mentioned cancer types, the Basal cell carcinomas are the major among them (Yaroslavsky et al 2012).…”

“…Indeed, the toilet lighting at one of Bandung's private institutions is controlled manually by pushing the On/Off button. Due to the high volume of toilet users (Chakrabarti, 2021). If this continues for an extended period, there will be a waste of electrical energy.…”

“…At present, for cancer detection, a number of optical fiber sensors based on surface plasmon resonance (SPR) have been developed due to their portability, compactness, and better sensing performance [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 ]. For instance, Prakhar Dutta et al [ 29 ] demonstrated a centrifuge powered by solar energy that effectively separates blood cells from blood samples using a steady centrifugal force for analyte measurement.…”
