“…As people age, cognitive function, memory and motor skills present a decline, as well as reduced visual acuity; thus, these factors impair the ability of individuals to access, interpret, and act on health information (24) , making it difficult to understand and apply FHL levels in practice. Furthermore, older adults generally use health services more often and are more predisposed to more complex and more frequent intervention procedures (24)(25) .…”

In these articles, adequate functional health literacy may allow a prospective learning facilitator to play a role in the caring process of cardiac pacemaker patients (15) . However, in people living with HIV, functional health literacy can influence educational technologies, and adherence to antiretroviral treatment (16) .…”

“…About age, the results obtained by a study of literature review (30) observed that the FHL was associated with sociodemographic variables such as gender, age, and schooling levels. However, in another research (31) , performed in Goiás, Brazil, despite not identifying the association between FHL and age, higher health fragility was observed in the elderly. Furthermore, in a study (32) , it was suggested that cognitive alterations associated with senility could interfere in the findings related to FHL.…”
