Metacognition is one of the important components to measure student learning achievement in the university. Metacognition knowledge can significantly measure students' critical thinking skills, especially in solving problems. The ability to solve problems serves as a bridge among metacognition as well as educational success. This study aims to determine metacognitive knowledge on the ability to solve complex problems in social geography. The sample of the research sample were 163 divided into two control and experimental groups. The experimental class used online project-based learning, and the control group used conventional learning. The instrument used to collect the metacognitive data uses was learning and Study Strategies Inventory (LASSI) adapted to the characteristics of students. By 77 items of LASSI were 48 items were valid and reliable used in this study. The result showed that the experimental group using online project-based learning had better metacognitive knowledge, especially on variables that had significant differences of p < 0.05, such as Information Processing, Attitude, Motivation, Self-Testing and Aids Studies. Furthermore, differences in the ability to solve complex problems of social geography are discussed in this study.

To leadership to the principal of the school plays an important role in improve the competence of teachers in their schools. Efforts to increase this are carried out by making policies that are translated into programs to increase teacher competency. This study aims to describe; (1) Principal Management in Improving Teacher Competence; (2) Principal Management Success in Increasing Teacher Competence; (3) Supporting factors, inhibiting factors and solutions for Principal Management in Improving Teacher Competence at SD N Medan City, North Sumatra. This research is in the form of qualitative research, the data collection method used is observation, interviews, and documentation. The research results show that Principal management in improving teacher competence, namely : (1) Involving teachers in training, training and seminars, (2) Implementation of supervision (3) Prioritizing discipline, (4) Motivating teachers. Application of leadership management school principals in improving teacher competence greatly affect the competence of teachers in SD N Medan City, North Sumatra, namely that the teachers have started apply the basic competency standards regulated by the government as well as possible. In implementing the program there will be supporting factors, inhibiting factors and leadership management solutions principal in improving teacher competence in Elementary School Medan City, North Sumatra.

The role of the counselling guidance teacher is not only limited to helping students solve the problems they are facing. The study aims to analyse the effectiveness of the SMART-based management model on the competence of counselling guidance teachers. A prospective cross-sectional interventional study with baseline and repeat surveys was conducted to evaluate the effect of the SMART-based model. The training participants were 84 who were selected purposively and divided into 2 groups (intervention and control). Competency data was measured through a questionnaire and analysed by statistical independent t-test using SPSS software. The results showed that the SMART-based training management model was effective in improving the competence of counselling guidance teachers (p-value = 0.001). SMART-based can effectively formulate training objectives so that they are more focused and measurable. The SMART-based model can be used as an alternative training to improve the competence of counselling guidance teachers.
