“…2 Although there has been no unified opinion or agreement on histogenesis and nomenclature, recently in such cases, the terms carcinosarcoma or sarcomatoid carcinoma have been used. 1 Both of these can be clearly defined. Carcinosarcoma is an admixture of an epithelial malignant component and a malignant soft tissue component in a tumor.…”

“…Although it is occasionally difficult to make a diagnosis, immunohistochemical study is of particular value in these tumors. [1][2][3][4][5] In our immunohistochemical study, in case 1, the sarcomatoid component consisted of spindle cells and was focally CK-and EMA-positive, which suggested this tumor was derived from an epithelial origin. Differentiation toward skeletal muscle or chondro-osseous tissue in the spindle cell component was not found.…”

“…Sarkomatoid diferensiyasyon gösteren mesane tümörlerinde tanıdan sonraki bir yıl içinde hastaların %66'sında metastaz geliştiği bildirilmekte-dir. Lopez Beltran'ın çalışmasındaki 26 hastanın ortalama 10 aylık dönemde kaybedildiği görülmektedir (10). Olgumuz operasyon sonrası 2 yıl geçmiş olup bu süre içerisinde nüks olmaksızın yaşa-mını devem ettirmektedir.…”

“…Immunohistochemically, epithelial elements react with cytokeratin, and stromal elements react with vimentin or specific markers of mesenchymal differentiation. Carcinoma in situ is present in 30% of cases and sometimes the epithelial component is composed only of carcinoma in situ (Lopez-Beltran et al, 1998).…”

“…In the series reported by Lopez-Beltran et al only 1 of the 26 patients with sarcomatoid carcinoma was stage pT2; the others (96%) were stage pT3/4. Among the 21 patients with a sufficient length of follow-up, 17 died from the disease within a mean 9.8 months (Lopez-Beltran et al, 1998). Doghri et al (2012) reported a 75 year-old case diagnosed sarcomatoid carcinomas of the urinary bladder with no evidence of disease 12 months after transurethral resection under observation who diagnosed at an early stage.…”
