Chromosome markers were developed for Arachis glandulifera using fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) of the 5S and 45S rRNA genes and heterochromatic 4'-6-diamidino-2-phenylindole (DAPI) positive bands. We used chromosome landmarks identified by these markers to construct the first Arachis species ideogram in which all the homologous chromosomes were precisely identified. The comparison of this ideogram with those published for other Arachis species revealed very poor homeologies with all A and B genome taxa, supporting the special genome constitution (D genome) of A. glandulifera. Genomic affinities were further investigated by dot blot hybridization of biotinylated A. glandulifera total DNA to DNA from several Arachis species, the results indicating that the D genome is positioned between the A and B genomes.

SummaryIn this study, chromosome numbers and morphologies are presented for four species growing naturally in Turkey. These species are Inula peacockiana (Aitch. & Hemsl.) Korovin, Cousinia boissieri Buhse, Scorzonera renzii Rech. f., Lactuca intricata Boiss. Chromosome number of studied species are Inula peacockiana 2n=20, Cousinia boissieri 2n=26, Scorzonera renzii 2n=14 and Lactuca intricata 2n=18. Also, karyotype analyses were made using the Bs200Pro Image Analysis Software. In addition, the karyotype asymmetry of each taxa was evaluated by different methods; TF%, AsK%, Rec and Syi, A 1 , A 2 , A, AI and Stebbins classification. The correlation between the karyotype asymmetries of the different taxa was calculated.

To contribute to the cytogenetic characterisation of the Cyphomandra clade of Solanum, fluorescence banding and silver staining were performed on Solanum fusiforme and Solanum stuckertii for the first time. Both species had 2n 024 chromosomes. Solanum fusiforme had a karyotype consisting of 9m ' 3sm chromosome pairs; one pair had active nucleolar organiser regions (NORs). Solanum stuckertii had 8m ' 4sm chromosome pairs with two pairs having active NORs. The two species exhibit similar amounts (11%) of constitutive CMA ' /DAPI ( heterochromatin, rich in GC base pairs. This heterochromatin was distributed in a complex pattern of mainly intercalary bands. Localisation of chromosome-specific markers was successful, allowing recognition of all chromosomes of the complements. With the aim of contributing to a better understanding of the interspecific relationships within the Cyphomandra clade, we discuss our results in conjunction with previous findings for species in this clade.
