Objective To assess the Perme mobility scale score as a predictor of functional status and complications in the postoperative period in patients undergoing liver transplantation. Methods The sample consisted of 30 patients who underwent liver transplantation. The patients were evaluated at two time points to determine their perception of pain, degree of dyspnea, peripheral muscle strength, and functional status according to the Perme scale. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive and inferential statistics. To compare the means between the evaluations, Student's t test for paired samples was applied. In case of asymmetry, the Wilcoxon test was used. In the evaluation of the association between the quantitative variables, the Pearson or Spearman correlation tests were applied. Results A total of 30 individuals who underwent liver transplantation were included. The patients were predominantly male, and the mean age was 58.4 ± 9.9 years. The most prevalent underlying pathology was cirrhosis C virus (23.3%). Significant associations of the time on mechanical ventilation with the Perme scale score at discharge from the intensive care unit (r = -0.374; p = 0.042) and the number of physical therapy treatments (r = -0.578; p = 0.001) were recorded. When comparing the results of the initial evaluation and the evaluation at hospital discharge, there was a significant improvement in functional status (p < 0.001). Conclusion Functional mobility, peripheral muscle strength, pain perception, and dyspnea are significantly improved at hospital discharge compared with those at inpatient unit admission.

Objetivo: Comparar a mobilidade dos pacientes no momento de internação e alta, bem como entre os setores UTI Geral e UTI Covid de um Hospital Universitário de Sergipe, através da análise dos indicadores assistenciais. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo de caráter longitudinal do tipo observacional desenvolvido no ano de 2020. Os indicadores de Mobilidade foram obtidos através do resultado da escala de Mobilidade na UTI (IMS). A análise estatística foi realizada através do programa SPSS (11.5). Para comparar os indicadores na admissão e alta das UTIs foi utilizado teste Qui-quadrado e Man Whitney. Resultados: Na admissão,78,9% na UTI Covid e 58% na Geral possuíam IMS zero. Foi verificada melhora no momento da alta de 14,6% na Covid e 37,9% na Geral. Quanto ao tempo para primeiro ortostatismo a média de dias, foi de 9,8(±8,4) na Covid e 11,2(±9,1) na Geral. Para deambulação foi visto que 32% e 23% das UTI Covid e Geral, respectivamente, deambularam. Houve diferença significativa entre as UTI Geral e Covid apenas para IMS zero na admissão (p=0,021). Já na alta não houve diferença significativa entre os indicadores avaliados. Em ambas as unidades não foi observado piora de IMS. Conclusão: Foi observado que a maioria dos pacientes foram admitidos restritos ao leito, com altas taxas de IMS zero, havendo diferença significativa entre as UTIs. No entanto, na alta, foi observada melhora nos indicadores de IMS, sem diferença significativa entre as unidades, porém com taxas ainda reduzidas, mostrando um comprometimento importante na mobilidade destes pacientes na alta da UTI.

Introduction: The hospital environment exacerbates the effects of immobility due to several exposure factors, and the functional assessment of individuals using reliable instruments is vital. Objective: To determine the relationship between functional mobility and the clinical outcome of patients admitted to an intensive care unit. Method: This is a prospective quantitative longitudinal study, approved by the institutional research ethics committee, carried out in the intensive care unit of a University Hospital. Clinical data and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE II) score were collected 24 hours after admission. The Perne Score was used to analyze patient mobility. Results: 33 patients participated, 63% female. With respect to mobility and transfers, 69.7% required total assistance from the supine to the sitting position and 70% to maintain balance, 9.1% needed minimum assistance from sitting to standing, and 100% total assistance for walking and endurance exercises. The main barriers to mobility were invasive ventilation (60%), assistive devices and intravenous infusion (100%). The following Perne Score domains were significantly associated with the outcome: mental status (p = 0.040), barriers to mobility (p = 0.016), strength (p = 0.010), mobility in bed (p = 0.024) and the total Perme Score ( p = 0.002). There were also significant associations between invasive ventilation and low Perme Scores (p = 0.000), and the Richmond Agitation-Sedation Scale (RASS) (-5 and -4) and death in 66.7% of patients (p = 0.011). The Perme Score and RASS (R = 0.745) were moderately correlated and APACHE II and Perme Score inversely moderately correlated (R = -0.526). Conclusion: Mobility assessed by the Perme Score was related to the clinical outcome and strongly associated with sedation level and patient severity.
