The objective of this research was to analyze the organizational culture of a Brazilian public hospital. It is a descriptive study with quantitative approach of data, developed in a public hospital of São Paulo State, Brazil. The sample was composed by 52 nurses and 146 nursing technicians and auxiliaries. Data were collected from January to June 2011 using the Brazilian Instrument for Assessing Organizational Culture – IBACO. The analysis of the organizational values showed the existence of hierarchical rigidity and centralization of power within the institution, as well as individualism and competition, which hinders teamwork. The values concerning workers’ well-being, satisfaction and motivation were not highly valued. In regard to organizational practices, the promotion of interpersonal relationship, continuous education, and rewarding practices were not valued either. It becomes apparent that traditional models of work organization support work practices and determine the organizational culture of the hospital.

O objetivo desta pesquisa empírica sobre o trabalho e as manifestações de adoecimento em uma empresa de telecomunicações é demonstrar a necessidade de trabalho emocional, de acordo com os conceitos de Hochschild (1983) na execução de tarefas pelos teleatendentes. Tais conceitos ainda não foram devidamente explorados no Brasil, apesar de muito utilizados em diversos países. O estudo utiliza-se de dados da análise da atividade associados à análise do conteúdo de verbalizações realizadas em situação de trabalho e à análise de cartas enviadas pelos trabalhadores espontaneamente ao sindicato da categoria. Busca-se evidenciar núcleos de sentidos atribuídos ao trabalho pelos próprios trabalhadores, nos quais traços da atividade, valores e problemas relacionados à atividade e o uso das emoções são percebidos. Os resultados obtidos permitiram descrever a atividade humana tendo como centro o trabalhador e suas relações com o trabalho. São apresentados os elementos do trabalho emocional diagnosticado, focalizando a necessidade dos sujeitos em moldar suas emoções para lidar com clientes, em face dos objetivos estabelecidos pela gestão, como fonte das queixas de esgotamento e cansaço relatadas.Palavras-chave: Teleatendimento, Trabalho emocional, Esgotamento, Exaustão emocional, Organização do trabalho.Emotional labour: the case of a call center workersThe aim of this empirical study is bring evidences about emotional labor requirements during tasks execution in a call center. The idea of emotional labor was initially described by Hochschild (1983), but there isn't much about this in Brazil. The study made an association of activities analysis and speech analysis. Dialogues in real situation and letters sent by the workers to their syndicate were evaluated to find out what they thought about their work, good values, troubles and, use of emotions like a work instrument. The obtained results lead to attendant work description from the workers vision, presenting emotional labor evidences and focusing the need of humans to control and change emotions during contact with clients. The use of emotion became part of the job like a task demand, and could bring fatigue and emotional exhaustion.Keywords: Call center, Emotional labor, Fatigue, Emotional exhaustion, Work organization. The purpose of this study is to describe the use of the Ergonomic Analysis of Work (EAW) in the process of rehabilitating workers, insured by the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) in Brazil, and to conduct a brief analysis of the instrument used by this body. Information obtained from EAW enabled the demand, the requirements of the activity and the skills needed to perform the tasks in the workplace to be determined, thus aiding the decision of the INSS as to rehabilitating the workers and their return to their jobs.
