A Survey of Transportation Problems

Abstract: This paper aims at being a guide to understand the different types of transportation problems by presenting a survey of mathematical models and algorithms used to solve different types of transportation modes (ship, plane, train, bus, truck, Motorcycle, Cars, and others) by air, water, space, cables, tubes, and road. Some problems are as follows: bus scheduling problem, delivery problem, combining truck trip problem, open vehicle routing problem, helicopter routing problem, truck loading problem, truck dispatc… Show more

“…It is a framework for seeing interrelationships rather than things, for seeing patterns of change rather than static "snapshots. " Some research that has been done related to this research are: an overview of the soft system methodology (Burge, 2015), the application of SSM in universities (Mehregan, Hosseinzadeh, & Kazemi, 2012), SSM in Math evolution module (Warwick, 2008), the application of SSM in the sugar industry (Proches & Bodhanya, 2015), SSM in strategic planning (Díaz-Parra et al, 2014), SSM as a Learning and Management Tool (Khisty, 1995), and learning to support learning together with SSM (Sanchez & Mejía, 2008).…”

“…Linear programming (lp) has been used extensively throughout the years with its applications in economics, health, engineering, supply chain and many more [9]. The key concept of linear programming finds applications in almost all aspect of life such as; personal diet planning to maximize certain nutrient [10], minimization of transportation cost of goods from warehouse to retail customers [11]. Linear programming is branch of Operation Research that seeks to select the best method and deals with the application of scientific models in decision making.…”
