A Comparison Between 90?? and 180?? Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty

Abstract: SLT with 25 laser spots on 90 degrees of trabecular meshwork has a similar pressure-lowering effect to SLT with 50 laser spots on 180 degrees of trabecular meshwork. The new treatment regimen with less laser spots could increase the repeatability of SLT and reduce potential tissue damage in the trabecular meshwork.

“…In two studies, it was unclear whether patients were randomised and the corresponding authors were contacted for clarification. 16,17 It was not possible to combine any of the 17 RCTs in a meta-analysis because of the significant differences in the study designs. There were no RCTs identified that compared SLT to surgery.…”

“…16,17 Owing to the nature of the treatment, in many studies it was not possible to mask the doctor or patient from the treatment (eg, laser vs drops); however, in some studies comparing different SLT treatment modalities (eg, 90 vs 180) the patient was masked. 16 Some studies masked the doctor performing tonometry. “…In the current study, SLT treatment was performed over 90°with the SLT Solo laser (Ellex) using some 25-30 spots applied to the trabecular meshwork. Traditionally, 180°o f the trabecular meshwork is treated, but a study published by Chen et al 14 showed similar effects when 90°of the trabecular meshwork was treated. The initial energy used was 0.9 mJ.…”

“…13 Diğer yandan pigment düzeyiyle başarı arasında ilişki bulunduğunu bildiren yazarlar da olmuştur. 14 GİB düzeyi başarıyı etkileyen faktörlerdendir. SLT öncesi GİB ne kadar yüksekse tedavi o derece etkili olmaktadır.…”
