Agreement in cardiovascular risk rating based on anthropometric parameters

Abstract: Objective To investigate the agreement in evaluation of risk of developing cardiovascular diseases based on anthropometric parameters in young adults. Methods The study included 406 students, measuring weight, height, and waist and neck circumferences. Waist-to-height ratio and the conicity index. The kappa coefficient was used to assess agreement in risk classification for cardiovascular diseases. The positive and negative specific agreement values were calculated as well. The Pearson chi-square (χ2) test was … Show more

“…Of the 23 articles in this group, 22 articles (n=18,173) reported the mean NC. Additionally, 14 studies 29 , 31 – 36 , 41 – 43 , 46 , 48 50 established different cut-off points for high NC for men and women, with a minimum and maximum value for men of 37cm and 42cm, respectively; while the values for women were 34 cm and 36.10 cm, respectively ( Table 2 ).…”

“…The research literature has testified that this relationship is an adequate predictor of metabolic and cardiovascular risk 8 10 , which reinforces its implementation in clinical practice. Moreover, this measure has also been associated with changes in the autonomic balance.…”
