Levantamento florístico de Floresta Atlântica no sul do Estado de São Paulo, Parque Estadual Intervales, Base Saibadela

Abstract: A floristic survey was carried out in the Parque Estadual Intervales (PEI), Base Saibadela (24°14'08"S, 48°04'42"W), São Paulo State, southeastern Brazil. The PEI reserve, along with other conservation unities, compose the largest preserved area of Atlantic rain forest remained today. Monthly collections of botanical material were conducted from 1993 to 1997 and 1999 to 2002, mainly along trails and plots inside the forest. A total of 436 plant species, 74 monocots and 362 eudicotiledons (here including the pa… Show more

“…The species sampled represent approximately 43% of the presently known angiosperm flora of the Saibadela forest, being responsible for about 75% of total basal area estimated for plants with dbh ≥ 5 cm (Guilherme et al 2004). The most common families sampled were Myrtaceae (11 genera, 37 species), Rubiaceae (9 genera, 14 species), Melastomataceae (5 genera and 9 species), and Araceae (4 genera, 9 species), which are among the most speciose families at Saibadela (Appendix 1; Zipparro et al 2005).…”

“…This result is largely due to the family Araceae, which is relatively rich in species in the Saibadela forest (ca. 20 species recorded to date; Zipparro et al 2005).…”

“…Human intervention has intensively fragmented Atlantic rain forest formations, particularly in southern Brazil (São Paulo state) (Zipparro et al 2005), and has resulted in loss of biodiversity (Laurance 2001;Tabarelli et al 2004). Crucially, the remaining fragments of vegetation have not yet been systematically investigated, leading to a gap in knowledge about the regional flora (Giulietti et al 2005;Cielo-Filho et al 2009).…”
