Adaptações do sistema estomatognático em indivíduos com desproporções maxilo-mandibulares: revisão da literatura

Abstract: Esta pesquisa procurou identificar as adaptações do sistema estomatognático em indivíduos com desproporções maxilomandibulares. Show more

“…Phonetic distortion was the phono-articulatory change that occurred most in skeletal Class II DFD, which is consistent with the scientific literature [20][21][22][23] . Articulatory imprecision also occurred, although unsystematically, that can be explained by the accumulation of saliva in the labial commissure.…”

“…The literature reports that in the cases of mandibular prognathism, the tongue occupies the floor of the mouth, and can be bulky, hypotensive and projected 13,14 . On the other hand, when mandibular retrognathism occurs with reduction in the anteroposterior space, the usual tongue position shows lowered apex with dorsum more elevated, which can be located between the dental arcs in case there is a concomitant maxillary retrusion 14,15 .…”

“…On the other hand, when mandibular retrognathism occurs with reduction in the anteroposterior space, the usual tongue position shows lowered apex with dorsum more elevated, which can be located between the dental arcs in case there is a concomitant maxillary retrusion 14,15 . From the analysis of the results on Table 2, it was observed that children with half-open or open lips present the mean SNB angle value smaller than that of children with closed lips.…”

“…Facial aesthetic changes were observed in DFD individuals regarding wrinkles and skin grooves, corroborating with the literature 19. Structural alterations can generate tensions and the formation of wrinkles, a fact observed in relation to the grooves and puppet lines in the lips region for DFD groups, which can be justified by compensations and lip adaptations during the orofacial functions 18 .…”

“…The DFD population deserves attention on the facial aspect since DFD causes functional changes 18 , and these morphofunctional changes can accentuate expression wrinkles 19 . It is expected that individuals with DFD and a consequent soft tissue change, due to their own structural and functional condition, overload their facial muscular activities in a compensatory and adaptive way, predisposing the appearance of wrinkles and signs of aging.…”
