ObjectiveTo evaluate the quality of healthcare provided to sickle cell disease children by primary healthcare services in a region of high prevalence.MethodsA cross-sectional, descriptive study was performed by interviewing members of families with sickle cell disease children. The children had been identified from the Neonatal Screening Program in Minas Gerais state over the last 12 years in towns of the Montes Claros-Bocaiuva microregion. A structured questionnaire specially developed for this study and based on three axes was used: indicators of the child's health (immunization, growth and development, prophylaxis antibiotic therapy), perception of care by the family (health education and accessibility) and knowledge of the family about the disease.ResultsSixty-three of 71 families with children identified as having sickle cell disease were interviewed. The predominant genotypes were Hb SS (44.4%) and Hb SC (41.2%). Adequate monitoring of growth and development was recorded for the first year of life in 23 children (36.6%) and for the second year of life in 18 children (28.6%). The basic vaccination schedule was completed by 44 children (69.8%) but 62 vaccination record cards (98.4%) identified delays of special vaccines. Regular use of prophylactic penicillin was reported by 55 caregivers (87.3%). The family's perception of the care provided suggests poor accessibility to health services and lack of opportunities to answer doubts. The average performance of families in knowledge testing was 59.8%.ConclusionThe quality of healthcare is unsatisfactory. The care provided to children with sickle cell disease in primary healthcare services needs improvements.

Português / Inglês www.scielo.br/reeusp RESUMOEste arti go tem como objeti vos identi fi car eventos adversos pós-vacinação, foco da práti ca da enfermagem, em base de dados do Sistema de Informação de Eventos Adversos Pós-Vacinação e discuti r a atuação do enfermeiro na sua vigilância. Uti lizaram-se dados secundários referentes às vacinas aplicadas na rede pública de saúde brasileira, no período de 1999 a 2008, totalizando 65.442 registros, sendo 59.899 confi rmados e 1.403 associados com outra vacina. Os 16 eventos de atuação da enfermagem perfi zeram 21.727 registros. Embora representem 35,4% dos registros, os dados não refl etem a realidade, pois sua fi dedignidade depende da rede de conhecimento que engloba diagnósti co, noti fi cação e inclusão no sistema. Discuti ram-se as intervenções para os eventos de maior prevalência: febre e eventos locais. A maioria das intervenções estabelecidas no manual de eventos adversos estava de acordo com a literatura, porém verifi caram-se diferenças de conteúdo entre as condutas para um mesmo evento decorrente de vacinas diferentes. DESCRITORES Vacinação Enfermagem em saúde pública Sistemas de informação ABSTRACTThe objecti ves of this arti cle are to identi fy the adverse events following vaccinati on, the focus if nursing practi ce, using the Post-Vaccinati on Adverse Events Informati on System database, and discuss on the nurses' practi ce on the surveillance for those events. Secondary data were those regarding the vaccines applied in the Brazilian public health system, in the period from 1999 to 2008, totaling 65,442 registers, 59,899 of which were confi rmed and 1,403 were associated with another vaccine. The 16 nursing practi ce events totaled 21,727 registers. Although they account for 35.4% of the registers, the data do not refl ect the reality, because their reliability depends on the knowledge network that comprises diagnosis, noti fi cati on and inclusion in the system. Discussions were made on interventi ons for the most prevalent events: fever and local events. Most interventi ons established in the adverse events manual was in agreement with the literature, though there were diff erences in the content between conducts for the same event due to diff erent vaccines.

O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a cobertura vacinal de crianças de 12 a 23 meses de idade residentes no município se Sarandi, PR. Para tanto foi realizado inquérito domiciliar, de dezembro de 2003 a março de 2004, para verificar as carteiras de vacinação das crianças residentes. A cobertura vacinal foi analisada segundo sexo, idade, tipo de vacina e município de realização da vacina. Das 740 carteiras de vacina avaliadas 77,6% constava esquema vacinal completo, sem diferença quanto ao sexo. As coberturas mais altas ocorreram para a BCG de 99,6%, para a vacina DTP/Tetra de 98%, para a Pólio de 97,2% e para a Hepatite B de 96,2%. Somente 31,1% das crianças com 12 meses de idade apresentavam esquema vacinal completo. As vacinas BCG e DTP/Tetra tiveram maior taxa de evasão, 13,9% e 11%, respectivamente. Entre as estratégias para melhorar as taxas de cobertura vacinal e realização das vacinas nos intervalos preconizados pelo Ministério da Saúde, destacam-se a capacitação da equipe de enfermagem, do aprimoramento do acesso e da qualidade do atendimento nos serviços de saúde e nas salas de vacina.
