Objective: to analyze adverse events following immunization (AEFI) caused by immunization error in the state of Paraná, Brazil, from 2003 to 2013. Method: this is a descriptive, documental, retrospective, and quantitative research using secondary data from the Adverse Event Following Immunization Information System and the Immunization Program Evaluation System. We included cases confi rmed and/or associated with different types of vaccines. For the analysis, we collected frequencies and incidence rates, and used simple linear regression models with Student's t-test. Results: it was observed an AEFI increase due to immunization errors, especially hot subcutaneous abscesses. BCG vaccine had the highest incidence of adverse events and children under one year old were the most affected individuals. Conclusion: the current scenario is worrisome because these are preventable AEFI -injuring patients due to bad vaccination practices -that may undermine the population's confi dence, reducing immunization coverage, and the progress in the control of vaccine-preventable diseases. DESCRITORES Vacinação Enfermagem em saúde pública Sistemas de informação ABSTRACTThe objecti ves of this arti cle are to identi fy the adverse events following vaccinati on, the focus if nursing practi ce, using the Post-Vaccinati on Adverse Events Informati on System database, and discuss on the nurses' practi ce on the surveillance for those events. Secondary data were those regarding the vaccines applied in the Brazilian public health system, in the period from 1999 to 2008, totaling 65,442 registers, 59,899 of which were confi rmed and 1,403 were associated with another vaccine. The 16 nursing practi ce events totaled 21,727 registers. Although they account for 35.4% of the registers, the data do not refl ect the reality, because their reliability depends on the knowledge network that comprises diagnosis, noti fi cati on and inclusion in the system. Discussions were made on interventi ons for the most prevalent events: fever and local events. Most interventi ons established in the adverse events manual was in agreement with the literature, though there were diff erences in the content between conducts for the same event due to diff erent vaccines.
This study identified the impact of hepatitis B vaccine over reducing incidence of this disease in Paraná State, between 2001 and 2011, and discussed the role of nursing in immunization. Descriptive documental and quantitative research. Utilized secondary data of hepatitis B, between 2001 and 2011 and vaccination coverage of hepatitis B vaccine between 1995 and 2011 in Paraná State, available in DATASUS, SINAN and Immunization Programs. Data has been collectedfrom May to July 2012. Included cases of hepatitis B confirmed by laboratory testing. Of the 14,434 selected cases, 81.8% was in urban residents, 86.5% belonged to 20 to 59 age group and 45.3% were infected by sexual transmission. In the correlation of vaccine coverage with the incidence, was identified reducing this rate in the range of 0 to 9 years old, in places with vaccination coverage's above 95%. It concludes that hepatitis B vaccination had impact over disease reduction in Paraná State.
