RESUMO:Foi feito o estudo anatômico da folha de Eugenia florida DC., espécie arbórea da família Myrtaceae, coletada no Campus da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, RJ. A espécie apresenta importantes propriedades farmacológicas, incluindo-se atividade antiviral. O presente estudo teve como objetivo fornecer dados, revelados através da microscopia óptica e da microscopia eletrônica de varredura, que possam contribuir para o conhecimento da espécie e, conseqüentemente, para a segurança em sua identificação. Anatomicamente, a folha é hipostomática, com organização dorsiventral do mesofilo. Apresenta tricomas simples apenas sobre a nervura mediana da face adaxial. As células epidérmicas apresentam contorno sinuoso em vista frontal e cutícula estriada. O parênquima paliçádico destaca-se pela grande quantidade de cristais prismáticos de oxalato de cálcio. Em posição subepidérmica ocorrem cavidades secretoras de óleos essenciais, pouco numerosas, nas duas faces da lâmina foliar. As células epidérmicas situadas sobre as estruturas secretoras constituem característica de valor diagnóstico e são reconhecíveis pela célula de topo, que é reniforme, circundada pelas adjacentes, que apresentam disposição radiada. A comparação entre folhas de sol e de sombra revela que, nas primeiras, as estruturas secretoras são completamente diferenciadas, ao contrário das folhas de sombra, além de apresentarem maior concentração de compostos ergásticos.Unitermos: Eugenia florida, Myrtaceae, anatomia foliar, plantas medicinais, farmacobotânica.ABSTRACT: "Foliar anatomy of Eugenia florida DC. (Myrtaceae)". A study of the foliar anatomy of Eugenia florida DC., a tree of Myrtaceae family collected at Fundação Oswaldo Cruz, Rio de Janeiro, RJ, was accomplished. This species presents important pharmacological properties, including antiviral activity. The aim of this research was to furnish data, revealed by optical microscopy and scanning electronically microscopy, in order to contribute to the knowledge of the species and to its safe identification. Anatomically, the leaf is hipostomatic, with dorsiventral mesophyll. Simple unicellular hairs are present only on the adaxial side of the leaf in the midvein region. Anticlinal walls of epidermal cells are undulate and the cuticle is striate. Palisade parenchyma presents a large amount of prismatic oxalate crystals. In subepidermical position there are secretory cavities bearing ethereal oils. These structures occur in a low frequency and are scattered along the both sides of the foliar blade. The epidermal cells that overlap the secretory cavities form an important characteristic anatomical feature. They are recognizable by the top cell, which presents a kidney shape surrounded by cells in a radiate way. The comparison between sun and shade leaves shows a complete development of the secretory cavities and a higher concentration of ergastic compounds in the first ones.

Objective: Evaluating the renoprotective effect of Echinodorus macrophyllus in acute kidney injury induced by cyclophosphamide in rats. Methods: Experimental research with Wistar rats, male adults, distributed into groups, namely: Controladministration of 1.5 ml sodium chloride 0.9% intraperitoneally; Echinodorous -administration of 2g/kg of Echinodorus macrophyllus by gavage for five days; Cyclophosphamide -administration of cyclophosphamide 150mg/kg intraperitoneally; and Cyclosphosphamide + Echinodorus -administration of Echinodorus macrophyllus and cyclophosphamide. Renal function (creatinine clearance) and the oxidative metabolites (peroxides and urinary substances reactive to thiobarbituric acid, thiols in kidney tissue) were evaluated. Results: Preconditioning with Echinodorus macrophyllus elevated the creatinine clearance and reduced the levels of oxidative metabolites. Conclusion: The antioxidant action of Echinodorus macrophyllus has demonstrated renoprotective effects evidenced by the reduction of oxidative stress in acute renal injury induced by cyclophosphamide in rats. ResumoObjetivo: Avaliar o efeito renoprotetor do Echinodorus macrophyllus na lesão renal aguda induzida pela ciclofosfamida em ratos. Métodos: Pesquisa experimental com ratos Wistar, machos e adultos que foram distribuídos nos grupos: Controle -administração de 1,5 ml de cloreto de sódio a 0,9,% por via intraperitoneal, Echinodorousadministração de 2g/kg de Echinodorus macrophyllus por gavagem durante cinco dias, Ciclofosfamida -administração de ciclofosfamida 150mg/kg por via intraperitoneal, Ciclosfofamida + Echinodorusadministração de Echinodorus macrophyllus e ciclofosfamida. Foram avaliados a função renal (clearance de creatinina) e os metabólitos oxidativos (peróxidos e substâncias reativas ao ácido tiobarbitúrico urinários, tióis no tecido renal). Resultados: O pré-condicionamento com Echinodorus macrophyllus elevou o clearance de creatinina e reduziu os níveis dos metabólitos oxidativos. Conclusão: A ação antioxidante do Echinodorus macrophyllus demonstrou efeito renoprotetor evidenciado pela redução do estresse oxidativo na lesão renal aguda induzida pela ciclofosfamida em ratos.

RESUMO:Hyptidendron canum (Pohl ex Benth.) Harley, Lamiaceae, é utilizada popularmente como antimalárica, antiinflamatória, antiulcerativa, anti-hepatotóxica e anticancerígena. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar o estudo morfo-anatômico das folhas e caules e identificar as principais classes de metabólitos secundários presentes nas folhas de H. canum, dados ainda não descritos na literatura. As folhas e caules jovens coletados em Goiânia (GO) foram seccionados à mão livre e preparados para análise microscópica. Foram realizadas reações de identificação de metabólitos secundários do material dessecado e pulverizado. Preparou-se o extrato etanólico bruto, que posteriormente foi fracionado por partição líquido-líquido com hexano, clorofórmio e acetato de etila. As frações foram submetidas à análise cromatográfica em camada delgada (CCD). As lâminas foliares apresentam epiderme adaxial constituída por células poligonais com parede reta. Na epiderme abaxial observam-se células com parede reta a ondulada e estômatos diacíticos e anisocíticos. Tricomas tectores e glandulares estão presente em ambas as faces da lâmina foliar. O pecíolo apresenta aspecto canaletado, epiderme adaxial e abaxial unisseriada. O caule, em secção transversal possui contorno em geral quadrangular, com presença de tricomas tectores e glandulares. As reações e a CCD das folhas evidenciaram a presença de flavonóides, saponinas, terpenos e lignanas. Este trabalho contribuiu para um maior conhecimento da morfo-anatomia e das classes químicas presentes em H. canum. Unitermos:Hyptidendron canum, Lamiaceae, morfo-anatomia, CCD. ABSTRACT:Hyptidendron canum (Pohl ex Benth.) Harley, Lamiaceae, is popularly used as an antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, antiulcerative, antihepatotoxic and anticancer agent. The goal of this research was to perform the morphoanatomy study of H. canum leaves and stem and identify the main classes of secondary metabolites present in the of H. canum leaves. Such data have not been reported in the literature. The young leaves and stems were collected in Goiânia (GO), hand sectioned and prepared for microscope analysis. Reactions were performed for the identification of secondary metabolites of the dried and pulverized material. The crude ethanol extract was prepared and then fractioned by liquid-liquid partition with hexane, chloroform and ethyl acetate. Thin layer chromatography (TLC) analysis was performed on the fractions. The leaf blades presented adaxial epidermis constituted of polygonal cells with straight walls. On the abaxial epidermis cells with straight to wavy walls and diacytic and anisocytic stomates were noted. Non-glandular and glandular trichomes are present on both faces of the leaf blade. The petiole is grooved, and it presents single layered adaxial and abaxial epidermis. The cross section of the stem presents a generally quadrangular contour with the presence of non-glandular and glandular trichomes.
