The objective was to evaluate the qualitative and nutritional aspects of elephant grass cv. BRS capiaçu silage with increasing proportions of silk cotton. A completely randomized design was used with five (0, 15, 30, 45, and 60% on natural matter basis) different inclusion proportions of silk cotton to elephant grass silage and four repetitions. Silages were prepared in PVC minisilos and remained ensiled for 42 days. The inclusion of silk cotton resulted in a linear reduction in dry matter (DM), neutral detergent fiber (NDF), acid detergent fiber (ADF), cellulose, and indigestible neutral detergent fiber (iNDF) contents at 0.06, 0.30, 0.23, 0.20, and 0.09 percentage points for each 1% inclusion, respectively. There was an increasing linear effect of crude protein (CP) and total digestible nutrients (TDN), with an increase of 39.32 and 20.89% from the lowest to the highest inclusion of silk cotton to elephant grass cv. BRS capiaçu silage. Values of pH, gas losses (GL), effluent losses (EL), dry matter recovery (DMR), hemicellulose, and lignin were not influenced by the evaluated inclusion levels, showing estimated averages of 3.87, 1, 42%, 11.55kg t-1 natural matter, 97.36%, 19.30%, and 7.20%, respectively. An increasing linear effect was found for fraction a, c, effective degradability (ED) (2% and 5%) dry matter, with an increment of 0.05, 0.0005, and 0.11 percent points, respectively. There was a quadratic effect for fraction b, potential degradability (PD), ED (2%), with minimum points of 23.72%, 50.52%, (at 45% inclusion level) 39.69%, (at 15% inclusion level) respectively. The indigestible fraction (IF) had a quadratic effect with a maximum of 49.48% at the 45% inclusion level. The colonization time (CT) linearly reduced by 0.09 percentage points for each 1% inclusion evaluated. According to the parameters evaluated, the inclusion of up to 60% silk cotton improved nutritional aspects and nutritional value of elephant grass cv. BRS capiaçu silage.

The objective of the current research was to evaluate the fermentative characteristics of silage made with the upper third section of cassava (Manihot esculenta) plants with added condensed tannin levels of 0, 25, 50 and 75 g/kg dry matter (DM). The experimental design was a complete randomized design, with treatments arranged in a 4 × 7 factorial (tannin addition levels × days of ensiling). The loss of gas and the presence of moulds observed in the opening days had increased linearly. Fermentative characteristics were decreased by the addition of tannin. Acetic acid content showed a linear increase. Tannin levels had a quadratic effect on gas production at 28 days of ensiling. After 56 days, however, tannin levels had no significant effect on silage gas production. After 28 days of ensiling, the degradability of potentially degradable fraction ‘b’ demonstrated quadratic effect. The same occurred with the fractions ‘a’, ‘b’ which were undegradable after 56 days of ensiling. The addition of condensed tannin lengthened the fermentative stage and caused the silage to stabilize after 56 days of ensiling.

RESUMO Neste estudo avaliou-se a produtividade e o valor nutricional, para ruminantes, da parte aérea e das raízes de oito genótipos de mandioca para indústria (BGMC 1304, BGMC 1299, BGMC 1297, BGMC 1262, BGMC 991, BGMC 923, BGMC 788 e BGMC 436), cultivados em área experimental da Embrapa Cerrados no município de Planaltina-DF (15º 35' 30'' de latitude Sul, 47º 42' 30'' de longitude oeste a 1000 m de altitude). Aos 12 meses após o plantio, efetuou-se a poda da parte aérea de todos os genótipos. Aos 18 meses após o plantio o experimento foi avaliado, momento em que foram colhidas as partes aéreas e as raízes tuberosas de cada genótipo em cada parcela experimental. O delineamento experimental foi em blocos ao acaso, com três repetições, sendo as médias comparadas pelo teste de Scott-Knott. Houve diferenças significativas entre os genótipos para produtividade de matéria seca (MS) da parte aérea e de raízes, bem como para as características nutricionais, com exceção para potássio, fósforo, magnésio e cobre da parte aérea e digestibilidade in vitro da matéria seca (DIVMS), e, para potássio, fósforo, cálcio e magnésio das raízes. O genótipo BGMC 1304 apresentou maior produtividade de parte aérea (8.554kg ha-1) e teores médios de 44,24% de DIVMS e 12,58% de proteína bruta (PB) nessa fração da planta. O BGMC 923 se destacou pela maior produtividade de raízes (17.760kg ha-1), com DIVMS média de 86,93% e PB 2,27%.
