Show more

“…The results achieved in our study are consistent with those found by Alves [10], which evaluated different peach cultivars and found that the effective fruit rate ranged from 33% (BRS Leonense) to 88.9% (Coral) in 2009; from 11.3% (Chiripá) to 80.7% (Chimarrita) in 2010, and from 12.3% (Chiripá) to 74.6% (Chimarrita) in 2011.…”

“…The introduction of new cultivars is an important item for the peach crop, but does not guarantee a satisfactory economic return because, besides the genetic factor, production and quality of the fruit also depends on the adaptability of the cultivar to environmental conditions. So the evaluation of selections and new cultivars in production regions is necessary (SIMONETTO et al, 2004;ALVES et al, 2012).…”

“…Among the many factors that influence the production, we highlight the weather conditions, mainly in relation to the amount of cold needed to overcome endodormancy of the cultivar (WAGNER JÚNIOR et al, 2009). Mild winters have been linked to heterogeneous flowering (COUTO et al, 2010), low budburst rate, reduced fruit set (ALVES et al, 2012). Once endodormancy is completed, the beginning of budbreak and flowering are regulated by warmer temperatures (CITADIN et al, 2001), period called ecodormancy.…”

“…The Chiripá cultivar, considered late maturing in the region (ALVES et al, 2012), had longer ATBs in both locations, which corresponds to greater depth of dormancy. However, in Curitiba, this cultivar did not differ from the Leonense, Marli and Chimarrita cultivars (intermediate maturing cultivars) and the Vanguard cultivar (early maturing cultivar), probably due to the low occurrence of cold; only 1 hour below 7.2 ºC was recorded at this location occurred prior to collecting the branches.…”
