Postura materna durante a gestação e sua influência sobre o peso ao nascer

Abstract: ObjectiveTo analyze the relationship between maternal posture/physical activity and inadequate birthweight. Methods Prospective cohort study involving 152 pregnant women from a public low-risk antenatal care facility. Three interviews evaluating the frequency of physical activity were administered to each pregnant woman during gestation. Birthweight (inadequate when <3,000 g and adequate when ≥3,000 g) was the dependent variable and the frequency of physical activity, the independent variable. Statistical anal… Show more

“…Vigorous physical activity was virtually absent in the present study, confi rming a previous cohort survey 21 including 153 low-income pregnant women attending public prenatal care facilities in the city of Sao Paulo. We were therefore unable to compare our data with those studies that detected associations between moderate to vigorous physical exercise/exertion and maternal-fetal health.…”

“…Other studies that analyzed (intentional or not) walking found a similar protective effect against inadequate birth weight (OR=0.44; 95% CI:0.20; 0.98) 21 or In regard to the hypothesis of a U-shaped relationship between physical activity and pregnancy outcomes, our results provide evidence for the extreme left side of this curve -increased risk of low birth weight and preterm birth among less active women who spend less time on general mild activities, housework, and leisure walks. The other extreme of the curve could not be tested as vigorous physical activity was rare among our subjects.…”

“…Essa metodologia reduz a possibilidade de proposições e recomendações específicas para atividade física. Em estudo anterior no qual atividades em pé puderam ser detalhadas, identificou-se associação específica da atividade de lavar roupa com o peso inadequado ao nascer (31) . As análises do presente estudo parecem assegurar a reprodutibilidade do questionário de atividade física para gestantes usuárias de serviços públicos de saúde com características semelhantes a amostra estudada.…”
