Hipotireoidismo Congênito Como Fator De Risco Para Os Transtornos Do Processamento Auditivo Central

“…The reason for the increased acoustic reflex sensation level, or even the absence of this sensation in conditions of intact middle ear and normal tonal hearing thresholds with the presence of otoacoustic emissions, suggest signs of retrocochlear changes. The importance of early treatment of CH is highlighted for benefits not only to hearing acuity, but also to other subclinical hearing disorders ( Hébert et al., 1986 ; Heyerdahl and Oerbeck., 2003 ; Andrade et al., 2019 ).…”

“…Authors ( Andrade et al., 2019 ) have ratified the existence of subclinical auditory findings in individuals with HC, and that these are fundamental in the early targeting of linguistic and behavioral assessments of children. Therefore, the triad is necessary: early diagnosis of CH, regular monitoring of clinical conditions and health promotion strategies to improve not only treatment adherence but the prognosis of long-term hearing disorders ( Léger et al., 2014 , 2015 ).…”

“…This suggests that auditory pathway changes may be already present at birth. Another study conducted with 112 CH patients older than five years of age demonstrated more frequent changes in cognitive functions, such as auditory attention, figure-background ability, and auditory memory, all related to central auditory processing [ 19 ].…”

“…Increased sleep and decreased activity, feeding difficulty, constipation, and prolonged jaundice are common symptoms of children with CH ( 4 , 5 ). According to new evidence, CH can be a risk factor for central hearing process disorders ( 6 ). This endocrine disorder can be detected on newborn screening, and infants who are identified in the first month have the best prognosis for optimal mental development ( 7 ).…”
