The Post Graduate Program in Nursing of the Federal University of Santa Catarina: 40 Years Contributing to the Excellence in Education

Abstract: The year of 2016 is special for the Programa de Pós-Graduação em Enfermagem (PEn) of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina (UFSC). By completing 40 years of a successful career, the PEn/UFSC has the joy of sharing with the public their accomplishments. “…These programs significantly contribute to academic training of health professionals, especially nurses, and to advances in research. [39][40] From the data collected by the present study, it was possible to identify theses and dissertations carried out in the Nursing area between 2002 and 2014 that constructed and/or validated protocols. We found a greater incidence of this topic starting from 2012, which reflects an increasing use of this methodology in nursing research and demonstrates acceptance and recognition of the importance of this approach.…”

“…It is stimulating to notice that the development of Post-Graduate studies in southern Brazil is overtly due to the efforts of PEN/UFSC. 3 With regard to its international solidarity, PEN/UFSC has already awarded 40 master degrees, 16 doctoral degrees, and eight post-doctoral degrees to foreign students since its creation in 1976, i.e., 64 foreign professionals have received an academic degree from PEN/UFSC so far. The commitment to the training of MSs and PhDs in Nursing, together with the desire of the UMAG to collaborate, allowed for the implementation of the Interinstitutional International Master's Program: MINTER/UFSC/ UMAG, whose dissertations comprised, among other works, the articles published in this special issue of Text & Context Nursing.…”
