Law enforcement is a stressful occupation with both work-related and social-related stressors. Too much stress can negatively affect behaviours, mental states, and job performance. Centralized police organizations limit officers’ individual autonomy, likely increasing stress. This study examined differences in occupational stress in two different European countries and one Middle East country. Participants were 351 male police officers from Serbia (n = 130, age 36 ± 8 years), Russia (n = 121, age 22 ± 4 years), and Lebanon (n = 100, age 36 ± 6 years) who completed the 20-item Operational Police Stress Questionnaire in their own language. Items were averaged and interpreted as low (≤2.0), stress (2.1–3.4), and high stress (≥3.5). Analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) analyses using age as the covariate with Bonferroni post hoc analyses were used. A principal component analysis (PCA) was used to determine stress structure per country. Significant differences were found with lower occupational stress in Russian (P < 0.001) and Lebanon (P = 0.003) than Serbian officers. PCA factor patterns differed by country, with six found for Russian and Lebanese and three for Serbian officers. More work-related stressors were rated higher for the younger Russian officers, while more social-related stressors were rated higher for the older Serbian officers. Results suggest that it is vital to consider officers’ stress sources and overall stress levels.
All treatments produced significant improvement in OHRQoL. The least amount of improvement was observed in patients with RDPs. OHRQoL changes in patients treated with FDPs and ISFPs were comparable. The same treatment can have different impacts on the OHRQoL of partially edentulous individuals depending on their age and Kennedy classification.
Background: obesity in children and adolescents became one of the most globally challenging medical problems over the past decades. Method: School-age children and adolescents from the Moscow's schools were examined. Height and weight data were obtained from screening examination records found in school medical charts. BMI (body mass index) was calculated. Derived data was analyzed according to the World Health Organization growth charts, for gender and age. Results: We demonstrated that in Moscow students aged 5 to 16 years old, obesity occurs mostly in the prepuberty period: boys 10-13, and girls 9-10. At the same time obesity prevalence is significantly higher in male adolescents than in female. In older groups decline in obesity prevalence provides for decrease in overweight prevalence. Obesity in specific groups with its maximum prevalence shows unfavorable features due to the predominance of central obesity indices both in boys and in girls. The most significant growth registered in thickness of abdominal and subscupular skinfolds (ASF and SSF, respectively) which was found in boys (4.3 and 4 times greater). In males abdominal obesity prevails, whereas in females, distribution of subcutaneous adipose tissue is more even. Conclusion: The value of ASF and SSF as a tool for cardiovascular pathology risk factors assessment in urban students ages 9-13 was confirmed by correlative analysis. These parameters have the strongest correlation with all the others evalu-ated in this investigation. Waist-to-hip ratio didn't show any significance in assessment of obesity in persons of prepuberty age.
Balance disorders are complications of stroke survivors. Aim of this study was the establish effectiveness of the biofeedback approach. In this intervention study 245 patients with early diagnosis of acute disturbance of cerebral circulation (ADCC) were examined. Patients able to move independently were treated by standard conservative ADCC therapy on an outpatient approach, but they continued to have problems with coordination of movement in upright position. Then they were submitted to an increasing physical activity based on five sessions of biofeedback, i.e., a complex rehabilitation of patients with motor pathology "Trust-M" according to TU 9442-001-63704475-2010. Mobility rates were assessed using a web camera. Patients' quality of life was evaluated by SF-36 questionnaire and the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS). All parameters were recorded before and after 5 sessions of biofeedback. After treatment, the stability indicators improved and all patients showed a significant increase in motion rate and quality of life. At the same time, the severity of pain and of depression and anxiety decreased. Negative correlations of average strength between the quadrant and patient HADS scaling rates were obtained. In conclusion, our work shows effectiveness of the biofeedback technique for correcting coordination in stroke survivors.
