This trial was performed to study the effects of replacing soybean meal (SBM) with fermented rapeseed meal (RSM) on growth performance, serum biochemistry variable and intestinal morphology of broilers. A total of 640 d-old Arbor Acres broiler chicks were randomly allocated to 4 dietary treatments, 4 pens per treatment and 40 birds per pen for a 6-wk feeding trial. In the four treatment groups, fermented RSM replaced soybean meal at 0, 5, 10, and 15%, respectively. On 21 d and 42 d, two birds from each pen were randomly selected and slaughtered. Blood samples and sections of duodenum, jejunum, and ileum were collected for measurement of serum biochemical variables and intestinal morphology, respectively. Results showed that body weight gain (BWG) and feed conversion (FC) were significantly (p<0.01) poorer for birds fed the 15% fermented RSM diet than those fed with 0, 5 and 10% fermented RSM diets during all periods. Compared with 0 and 5% fermented RSM groups, IgG content in the serum of birds in 10 and 15% fermented RSM groups was improved (p<0.01) urea nitrogen content of serum was reduced (p<0.01) during both growing and finishing periods. However, IgM, phosphorus and calcium levels increased (p<0.05) only during the growing period. Increased (p<0.05) villus height was observed in the duodenum and jejunum of broilers fed the diet with 10% fermented RSM. In addition, villus height to crypt depth ratio in the jejunum was significantly higher (p<0.01) for birds fed the diet with 10% fermented RSM than for those fed diets with 0, 5 and 15% fermented RSM. The present results suggest that RSM fermented with Lactobacillus fermentum and Bacillus subtilis is a promising alternative protein source and that it could be safely used replace up to 10% SBM in broiler diets.
Purpose
Reducing employees’ knowledge hiding is vital for enterprise managers. The development of enterprise social media brings opportunities for them to manage employees’ knowledge-hiding behaviors. However, whether the use of enterprise social media inhibits or promotes knowledge hiding is still unclear. The purpose of this study is to explore how enterprise social media usage affect employees' knowledge hiding.
Design/methodology/approach
Based on the intrinsic and extrinsic motivation model, this paper proposes a research model to investigate the relationship between enterprise social media usage and knowledge hiding, using a structural equation modeling analysis of 288 employees’ data.
Findings
The results show that work-related public social media usage has an inhibiting effect on employees’ knowledge hiding, whereas the effect of work-related private social media usage on employees’ knowledge hiding is not significant; socially related public social media and private social media usage has a promoting effect on employees’ knowledge hiding; and job engagement acts in a positive moderating role between socially related private and public social media usage and evasive hiding.
Originality/value
First, this paper contributes to knowledge-hiding literature by revealing the relationship between enterprise social media usage and knowledge hiding. Second, this study contributes to motivation theory by clarifying how the use of enterprise social media with different motivations affects knowledge hiding. Third, this paper also contributes to knowledge-hiding literature by revealing a boundary condition, namely, job engagement.
The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of different high-intensity ultrasonication (HIU) pretreatment on the structure and properties of soybean protein isolate (SPI) as well as enzymatic hydrolysis of SPI by bromelain and antioxidant activity of hydrolysates. The HIU-treated SPI fractions showed a decrease in the proportion of α-helices and β-turns and an increase in the content of β-sheets and random coils based on Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. Near-infrared spectra and fluorescence spectra analyses provided support for the changes in secondary and tertiary structures of SPI after ultrasound treatment. The particle size of SPI decreased from 217.20 nm to 141.23 nm and the absolute zeta potential increased. Scanning electron microscopy showed that HIU treatment changed apparent morphology. Dynamic and static light scattering of ultrasonicated samples showed that SPI structure had changed from hard-sphere to hollow-sphere or polydisperse and monodisperse gaussian coils. HIU pretreatment significantly increased the hydroxyl-radical scavenging and the degree of hydrolysis of the SPI hydrolysates.
A major challenge confronting online retailers is that of stimulating consumer online purchase intention. Many studies have explored the factors that affect consumer purchase behavior; however, few have described the underlying mechanism that links the online shopping experience to social ties and the effect of their strength on purchase intentions. This study adapted the stimuli–organism–response (S–O–R) model to analyze the effects of the online shopping experience on customer involvement and online purchase intention under conditions of weak and strong social ties. Two quasi-experiments were conducted to test the research model and hypotheses. The results showed that online shopping experience had a positive effect on customer involvement, and this involvement in turn had a positive effect on online purchase intention in the strong-tie group and the weak-tie group. Cognitive and affective involvement played partial mediating roles between the online shopping experience and online purchase intention in the weak-ties group and full mediating roles in the strong-ties group. The effects of online shopping experience on customer involvement and online purchase intention differed between the two tie strength groups. The implications of these findings for researchers and practitioners are discussed.
