The objectives of this research are to find the types of code switching used in the novel and to describe the reasons influencing the use of code switching in the novel. This research used descriptive qualitative method. It means that it describes clearly about the fact of code switching whether the form and the reasons based on the data that gained through reading the whole contain of the novel. Analysis is focused on three types of code swtiching (inter-sentential switching, intra-sentential switching and tag-switching) and the reasons of using code switching. The results of the analysis reveal that mostly intersentential switching of utterance used in this novel.
The research aims to determine the effect of vocabulary mastery on students' English descriptive writing skills and the impact of reading habits on students' English descriptive writing skills, as well as the effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits together on students' English descriptive writing skills. The population in this study was students of class X State Senior High School in Cibinong and the sample was 120 students. The sampling technique was processed using a simple random sampling method. Descriptive statistical methods were used in this research. The research instrument used was a questionnaire on students' vocabulary mastery, reading habits, and a descriptive text writing skill test. Data analysis used SPSS version 25, the significant level of = 0.05. The requirement analysis use normality test, homogeneity test, two-way ANOVA. The result of this research is vocabulary mastery by the value of sig. = 0.77 < 0.05 does not have a significant effect on students' descriptive text writing skills, reading habits have a significant influence on students' descriptive text writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.05 and there is no significant effect of vocabulary mastery and reading habits on students' writing skills by the value of sig. = 0.01 < 0.265.
This research aims to reveal the slang expression (slang words) uttered by some characters in Little Man movie. To analyze them, the writers use Holmes’ references about social scale which is classified into four scales. By using qualitative descriptive method, the writers found 18 slang words then analyzed them into social distance scale, status scale, formality scale, or functional scale. After classifying these scales, it can be concluded that social distance scale is the mostly used in the movie. It can be assumed that social distance scale has told about the relationship between characters.
The objective of this research was to explore and develop the narration of a religious movie 99 Cahaya di Langit Eropa in Indonesia to be applied in spiritual education at schools. This research applied qualitative method using content analysis and narratology approach. The result of the research was the development the movie narration which was focused on plot, performance or presentation, and focalization telling the interactions of the main characters with Westerners who are sentimental with Islam due to the issues of terrorism and the efforts to explain the position of Islam as a compassionate religion. The development of religious film narratives in Indonesia for spiritual education at schools should be based on everything related to spirituality.
Pertaining to the phenomenon of Spongebob meme, the writers are interested to discuss meaning of Spongebob meme with involving a study of linguistic. The objective of the research is to answer how violations of maxims are showed on Spongebob meme, and what the meanings of it. The writers took Spongebob meme from as a substance to be analysed. This paper uses descriptive qualitative method. The data are analysed using the violations of maxims to arise the implicature based on Grice, semiotic triangle theory based on Richard and Ogden, and the meanings of Spongebob meme are concluded by using inference theory. The result indicates that each Spongebob meme possess different violations of maxims.
