The article analyzes the potential of using deepfake technologies for political purposes. It is noted that in the near future, deepfakes may affect various levels of public and political life and contribute to the spread of a wide range of threats: from reputational risks for celebrities and individuals, to the development of organized crime and problems of social stability and national security. The authors evaluate potential threats, prospects and main directions of state regulation of deepfake content in the broader context of political and legislative initiatives to counter the spread of disinformation and fake news.

The article analyzes the election campaign, public discourse, and policies of J. Bolsonaro as the President of Brazil. The new President represents the model of an irreconcilable right-wing populist who focuses on US foreign policy. Bolsonaro’s rise to power came amid the crisis of left-wing populism in Brazil. The article raises the question: whether Bolsonaro’s victory is a remarkable case or a new effective model of public policy and political leadership for Brazil and other countries in the region? The author concludes that it depends largely on J. Bolsonaro’s success as the President. At the moment, the interim results of his presidency are highly controversial and continue to divide and polarize Brazilian society.

The author introduces the concept of “potential soft power”, indicating the potential (real or imaginary) of “soft power” influence of political actors, which they do not plan to use directly in a situation of political confrontation, but seek to capitalize on in order to influence the behavior of the opponent. The main objectives of “potential soft power” are deterrence, demoralization and reducing of the space of possible behavior of other parties (both opponents and allies). Certain propositions and statements of the concept of potential power of the economist and mathematician T. Schelling are applied to the perspective of “soft power” in world politics.
