This study explores the influence of endogamous marriage (Arab-Arab family) and exogamous (Arab-Javanese family) on the personal name of Hadrami-Arab who living in the Kampong Arab Pasar Kliwon, Surakarta. Endogamous marriage among Hadrami-Arab resulted in identity retention, especially ethnic identity. In contrast, exogamous marriages play a role in generating a hybrid entity that inherits the characteristics of each ethnic parent, including personal name. Utilizing Net Consolidation Data for the First Semester of 2017 – download as of February 23, 2018– managed by the Data and Statistics Division of the Population and Civil Registration Agency of Surakarta, the names of the residents of Pasar Kliwon Subdistrict were classified according to the ethnicities of both parents. The elements in name construction were then identified to formulize the naming system utilizing the socio-onomastics framework. From the analysis, it can be revealed that the endogamous marriage became the dominant marriage as an effort to maintain the lineage of their ancestors, especially the male line (patrilineal). This effort is followed by giving the newborn baby name by adopting the name of his/her father, grandfather’s, or a combination of both. The attachment of surname after the personal name is also a characteristic of children who born from endogamous family. Meanwhile, families from exogamous marriages (Javanese mother and Arab fathers) prefer to name their child with a hybrid name through a combination of naming systems from their cultural background, Arabic-Javanese words and vise versa. The selection of Arabic names by Hadrami-Arabs is emphasized more highlight their ethnic identity, even though it also displays their religious status, Islam.

Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh kemampuan siswa dalam berpikir logis dan rasional masih rendah sedangkan era globalisasi menuntut adanya persaingan antar negara dalam berbagai aspek kehidupan termasuk sumber daya manusia. Kualitas sumber daya manusia bukan saja akan menentukan kemajuan suatu negara tetapi juga menjadi penentu daya saing antar bangsa. Kondisi demikian mendorong bidang pendidikan didesain untuk mampu membekali siswa yang tanggap terhadap tantangan era globalisasi. Untuk menghadapi tantangan tersebut, maka perlu melatih siswa agar mampu belajar secara mandiri dan berkembang kemampuan bernalar serta berpikirnya. Hal ini sejalan dengan tujuan pembelajaran dari sekolah dasar yaitu membentuk manusia intelektual, mampu memecahkan permasalahan serta mampu berpikir/bernalar. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian membuktikan bahwa penggunaan strategi metakognitif problem solving merupakan alternatif strategi pembelajaran yang dipertimbangkan dan mampu mengembangkan keterampilan berpikir tingkat tinggi siswa. Hal ini ditunjukkan dari skor rerata skor tes awal adalah 27,94; rerata skor akhir 71,54, dan N-Gain 61 (100%) dalam kategori sedang.
The study aimed to explore (1) the Indonesian language learning process that should integrate the values of character education, (2) the design development of Indonesian language learning materials based on the values of character education, and (3) the development product of the Indonesian language learning materials based on the values of character education for the secondary school students in Klaten Regency. The study is a research and development model which consists of the exploration phase, development phase, and experimental phase. The object of the study included the Indonesian language learning materials, teachers, and students of four secondary school institutions in Klaten Regency. It deployed interview, document analysis, and observation as the data collection techniques. Meanwhile, the data analysis utilized a descriptive qualitative model to observe various activities during the development phase, including material development and quantitative analysis to discover the product validity. The findings confirmed a well-running process of the Indonesian Language learning activities that should implement the values of character education for the secondary school students in Klaten, even if the teachers still ought to rely on their creativity in finding the relevant materials. The design development of Indonesian language learning materials based on the values of character education for the secondary school students in Klaten mainly integrated the values of character education with the reading materials contained in the available Indonesian language teaching instruments (books). The development product of the Indonesian language learning materials based on the values of character education for the secondary school students in Klaten had been carried out as an experiment in State 5 Klaten Secondary School and confirmed a good result. There were a few strength and weakness of the prototype, as the basis for the quality improvement of Indonesian Language learning materials that should contain the values of character education.
