E-learning is considered a leading application of digital technologies in educational systems. The aim of the paper is to explore the utilization and impact of digital technologies on an e-learning platform. For this purpose, research was conducted at the Moodle learning management system. Data from the e-learning platform were empirically evaluated in order to find key indicators of student performance in different courses. Student success with the e-learning system was evaluated using a mixed-method: Social Network Analysis, K-Means Clustering, and Multiple Linear Regression. The research was conducted at the University of Novi Sad, Faculty of Technical Sciences, Serbia. The results indicate a significant relationship between the performance of students and the use of digital educational resources from the e-learning platform.
Purpose The aim of this study is to examine how and in what way authentic leadership and affective employee commitment foster the learning organisation in the context of transitional market conditions. Acting as role factors, their relationships with the learning organisation were examined simultaneously, at leadership and employee level. Design/methodology/approach The study was conducted on a sample of 500 employees from various industries of Serbian transitional economy. For the research purposes, structural equation modeling (SEM) methodology was used. Findings The findings reveal that authentic leadership and employee commitment both play an important role. Specifically, authentic leadership directly and indirectly affects the learning organisation. The indirect effect is partially mediated by the employee affective commitment. Research limitations/implications The focus of this study is limited to the role of authentic leadership in fostering the learning organisation. Apart from leadership and employee commitment, it might be assumed that other variables have the potential to play a role in fostering the learning organisation as well. Originality value To the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous study has focused on authentic leadership and employee commitment as an “enabling-mechanism” in fostering learning organisations in the context of transitional economies. Consequently, this paper provides theoretical and practical implications on how and in what way they impact a learning organisation by empirically studying them in the context of transitional market conditions.
This paper examines the success of an e-learning system in a company from the perspective of employees by using a multimethod approach. For this purpose Moodle learning management system was used. The success of e-learning as an information system was evaluated using four constructs of the updated DeLone and McLean IS success model-system quality, use, user satisfaction and net benefits, and adding one more construct-user performance. In this research a combination of observation and survey as two different research methods was used, which allowed the new measure to be incorporated into the model. Empirical assessment was carried out by exploratory factor analysis, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling. The research model was found to be valid and reliable. The results provide an expanded understanding of the constructs that measure the success of an e-learning system, helping to more deeply understand the key success dimensions and their interrelationships. The implications of our work were discussed. The DeLone and McLean IS success model applied equally well. However, the use of observation as a method of data collection revealed the weaknesses of the original model.
Manufacturing is currently at a turning point from mass production to customized production. The implementation of the Industry 4.0 concept, leading to automation and digitalization of manufacturing processes, is therefore considered vital for companies that aim to follow emerging trends in production. Research in this field is primarily focused on companies from developed countries, while companies from transition countries have difficulties to adapt to new business environment. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the use of advanced digital technologies in manufacturing companies from transition countries (i.e. Serbia) in the context of Industry 4.0. To address this problem, an evaluation method based on Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (FAHP) and Preference Ranking Organization Method for Enrichment Evaluations (PROMETHEE) is proposed. FAHP was used to determine criteria weights as an input for PROMETHEE method which was then used to evaluate advanced digital technologies. For this purpose, the dataset from the European Manufacturing Survey gathered in 2018 from Serbian manufacturing companies is used. The results of this empirical research revealed that production planning and scheduling, digital exchange of data with suppliers/customers, and production control systems play vital role for manufacturers in the context of industry 4.0. These results could serve to manufacturers for their strategic orientation and decision making.
The process of creating value by adding services to product offerings, or servitization, is a mature theme in the literature, flourishing in recent years. Prior research investigated the impact of servitization measured by the share of services on the performance in terms of growth and stability. However, the impact of service antecedents on the share of revenue was neglected. This research intends to shed light on the impact of service portfolio antecedents on firm performance and to investigate the direct vs. indirect charges of services and the interplay of different firm characteristics and the service business model. We used dataset on 474 manufacturing firms from Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia. Results reveal antecedents as well as implications of direct and indirect charging of services in manufacturing firms. In addition, this study demonstrates the interplay of different firm characteristics and servitization.
Technological and non-technological innovations represent one of the most important and sustainable sources of competitive advantages for businesses. Industry 4.0, a new fundamental paradigm shift in industrial production and organisational innovation, as new management practices, are important issues for companies as they seek to upgrade their productivity, improve the quality of supply and retain competitiveness. Analysis of technological and non-technological innovations of the textile and apparel industry in Serbia became particularly important in the situation where the Serbian transitional economy opted to alter its growth model. This paper analyses the results of the European Manufacturing Survey conducted in manufacturing industries in a transitional economy – the Republic of Serbia. The current Serbian dataset of 2015 includes 280 observations of Serbian firms of all manufacturing industries. The empirical results indicate that textile and apparel manufacturing companies in Serbia utilise industry 4.0 and organisational innovation concepts on a very low level.
Manufacturing firms increasingly produce and provide services along with their traditional physical products. This process, better known as servitization, is a mature theme in the literature, flourishing in recent years. Digital disruption is propelling manufacturers to move on towards digital transformation and deliver digital services. Prior research investigated the impact of servitization measured by the traditional services. However, the role of digital technologies in manufacturing is neglected. This paper intends to shed light on the impact of digital service portfolio antecedents on firm performance. Our analysis used the Serbian dataset of 240 manufacturing firms from the European Manufacturing Survey conducted in 2018. The empirical results show that, in manufacturing firms, digital services can significantly increase the turnover ratio. Results indicate that management in manufacturing companies should utilize digital services such as Web-based services for customized product design and Web-based offers for product utilization to maximize firm's turnover ratio and upgrade current service business model.
