The fish processing industry generates a large amount of materials discarded as residue. It is known that fish and its residue are a source of essential nutrients. Conversely, bread is a food accessible to different social classes but is deficient in protein, minerals, and fatty acids. Thus, this study aimed to develop bread products based on the addition of flour from Red-tailed Brycon (Brycon cephalus) processing residue and then evaluate the chemical and sensory qualities of the products. In relation to a standard bread formulation without fish flour, the addition of fish flour to bread formulations resulted in products with not only higher contents of protein, essential fatty acids, and minerals, especially calcium and phosphorus, but also lower contents of carbohydrates. The breads with fish flour received sensory acceptance better than or as good as that of a bread formulation without fish flour. Hence, the addition of fish processing residue to breads is a way to provide essential nutrients to the population through a well-accepted, accessible, and low-cost product.
Owing to their high surface area, stability, and functional groups on the surface, iron oxide hydroxide nanoparticles have attracted attention as enzymatic support. In this work, a chemometric approach was performed, aiming at the optimization of the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) immobilization process on Δ-FeOOH nanoparticles (NPs). The enzyme/NPs ratio (X1), pH (X2), temperature (X3), and time (X4) were the independent variables analyzed, and immobilized enzyme activity was the response variable (Y). The effects of the factors were studied using a factorial design at two levels (−1 and 1). The biocatalyst obtained was evaluated for the ferulic acid (FA) removal, a pollutant model. The materials were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The SEM images indicated changes in material morphology. The independent variables X1 (−0.57), X2 (0.71), and X4 (0.42) presented the significance effects estimate. The variable combinations resulted in two significance effects estimates, X1*X2 (−0.57) and X2*X4 (0.39). The immobilized HRP by optimized conditions (X1 = 1/63 (enzyme/NPs ratio, X2 = pH 8, X4 = 60 °C, and 30 min) showed high efficiency for FA oxidation (82%).
ABSTRACTLady palm (Rhapis excelsa) has high commercial value, specially in ornaments of vases and gardens located on shade. However, the information about its requirements in fertilizer and great terms of shading are little. To shade, the common used material is shade net black. The color shade net stimulate the vegetal growth and it is recently used in the commercial system. The aim of this work was to evaluate the influence of different percents and types of shades and foliar fertilizer in development of seedlings this palm. The plants used in this experiment were cultivated in recipients with soil, organic matter and sand (1:1:1), with the addition of 10 g of fertilizer by liter of substrate. These plants were four years old approximately. The measurements of increasing of height and number of leaves were taken at 105 and 195 days since the beginning of the experiment. It was also observed the number and height of seedlings, width from leaflets, as well as the final plant height at 195 days. The foliar fertilizer was not affected in growth of seedlings. The different types of screening either affect significantly the final height of the plants, indicating than the growth of palm Rhapis can be under any kind of shade.
A significant enhancement in the catalytic performance due to enzymes immobilization is a great way to enhance the economics of biocatalytic processes. The soybean peroxidase (SP) immobilization under ferroxyte and the ferulic acid removal by the enzyme free and immobilized were investigated. The immobilization via silica-coated ferroxyte nanoparticles was effective, and immobilization yield of 39%. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images showed significant changes in the materials morphology. Substantial differences were observed in the particles' Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) spectra. The magnetic catalyst revealed a better performance than the free enzyme in the ferulic acid conversion, presenting a good V /K ratio when compared with the free enzyme. The reuse evaluated by ten cycles exhibited excellent recycling, remaining constant between the sixth and seventh cycles. The use of magnetic nanocatalyst becomes possible to eliminate the high operational costs, and complicated steps of the conventional enzymatic processes. Thus, a viable industrial route for the use of the enzyme as catalyst is possible.
