RESUMO As condições de estresse biótico e abiótico impostas às plantas induzem a superprodução de espécies reativas de oxigênio (ROS), podendo causar danos às estruturas celulares e mesmo acarretar a morte da planta. As respostas bioquímicas INTRODUÇÃOO oxigênio molecular (O 2 ) surgiu na atmosfera terrestre há bilhões de anos e sua presença permite que os organismos aeróbios o utilizem como aceptor de elétron terminal durante a respiração celular, que proporciona um rendimento de energia superior ao da fermentação. Embora necessário para o desempenho das funções celulares, o O 2 leva, inevitavelmente, à formação de espécies reativas de oxigênio (ROS, do inglês reactive oxygen species) em eventos metabólicos que ocorrem, principalmente, nas mitocôndrias, cloroplastos e peroxissomos (BHATTACHARJEE, 2010;KARUPPANAPANDIAN et al., 2011).As plantas desenvolveram mecanismos de defesa enzimáticos e não enzimáticos capazes de neutralizar a citotoxidade das ROS. O sistema celular de defesa antioxidante começa com uma cascata enzimática, mas envolve também componentes não enzimáticos, dentre os quais se destacam o ascorbato (AsA), a glutationa (GSH), o β-caroteno e o -tocoferol. Tais antioxidantes podem evitar a formação de radicais livres, sequestrá-los ou promover sua degradação, prevenindo a ocorrência de danos às células das plantas (SERKEDJIEVA, 2011). Antimicrobial activity of the essential oil (EO) of Lippia gracilis

Resumo -O Brasil destaca-se por ser o maior produtor de cana-de-açúcar (Saccharum officinarum L.) e por dominar todos os estágios da tecnologia de produção de açúcar e etanol. Atualmente se observa a expansão dessa cultura para a região semiárida brasileira, a qual apresenta solos propensos à salinização. O presente trabalho objetivou avaliar a resposta à salinidade de duas variedades de cana-de-açúcar. O ensaio foi implantado em casa de vegetação, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em esquema fatorial 2 x 8 com cinco repetições, correspondendo a duas variedades de cana-de-açúcar (RB867515 e RB863129) e oito níveis de NaCl (0; 25; 50; 75; 100; 125; 150; 200 mM de NaCl). A salinidade induziu aumento na fluorescência e diminuição na concentração de clorofila em ambas as variedades. A redução da clorofila, entretanto, foi maior na variedade RB867515. Observou-se, nesta mesma variedade, aumento da atividade da peroxidase do ascorbato (APX) e da catalase (CAT), enquanto na variedade RB863129 ocorreu redução na atividade dessas enzimas. Esses resultados indicam que a variedade RB867515 apresenta um mecanismo mais eficiente na proteção da planta contra danos no aparato fotoquímico e contra a ação de espécies reativas de oxigênio, em particular o H 2 O 2 .Palavras-chave -Catalase. Saccharum officinarum.Abstract -Brazil is seen as being the largest producer of sugarcane (Saccharum officinarum L.) and of mastering all stages in the production of sugar and ethanol. Currently this production is being expanded into the semi-arid regions of Brazil, where there are soil-types prone to salinity. This study aimed to evaluate the response to salinity in two sugarcane genotypes, RB867515 and RB863129. Salinity caused an increase in chlorophyll fluorescence and a reduction of chlorophyll concentration in both varieties. The reduction of chlorophyll however was higher in RB867515. In this same type, an increase in the activity of ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and catalase (CAT) was observed, while in genotype RB863129 there was a reduction in the activity of these two enzymes. These results show that RB867515 has a mechanism which better protects the plant against damage to the photochemical system and the action of reactive oxygen species, particularly H 2 O 2 .

RESUMOO presente trabalho avaliou 12 genótipos de bananeira no que se refere à tolerância à salinidade em fase inicial de crescimento, período do ciclo fenológico de maior sensibilidade. As plantas foram cultivadas, durante 21 dias, e submetidas a um tratamento com 100 mM de NaCl e a um controle, sem NaCl. Avaliaram-se atributos biométricos e teores de elementos minerais no tecido vegetal. Seis genótipos (Calipso, FHIA-02, PA 42-44, Bucaneiro, FHIA-03 e PV 42-142) dos doze estudados, apresentaram sintomas de toxidez causados pelo tratamento salino. O genótipo PA 42-44 se destacou como mais sensível, com os maiores teores de Na + , tanto no limbo foliar quanto nas raízes e rizoma, associados a uma redução da massa seca, da ordem de 18,5%. Os elevados teores de sódio detectados no genótipo PA 42-44 sugerem uma eficiência menor na extrusão do cátion paralelamente à ausência de habilidade em evitar sua translocação para o limbo foliar. Por outro lado, o genótipo Preciosa apresentou os menores teores de Na + e a menor redução da produção de biomassa seca (0,2%), além de baixa relação Na + /K + . Palavras-chave:Musa spp, potássio, sódio, relação Na + /K + Effect of salt stress on banana tetraploid genotypes ABSTRACT This study evaluated 12 banana genotypes with respect to salt tolerance during initial growth, the most sensitive stage of the phenological cycle. Plants were grown for 21 days under 100 mM NaCl or under a control treatment without NaCl. Biometrical parameters and mineral contents in plant tissue were evaluated. Six genotypes (Calipso, Bucaneiro, out of 12 considered in this study showed toxicity symptoms induced by saline treatment. The PA 42-44 genotype was pointed out as the most sensitive one because it showed the highest Na + contents in both leaf blade and roots and rizome, besides a 18.5% reduction of dry matter production. The high Na + contents found for PA 42-44 tissues suggest a low efficacy to extrude and to prevent the Na + translocation to leaf blade. On the other hand, the Preciosa genotype showed both the lowest Na + contents and the smallest reduction for dry matter production (0.2%) as well as a low Na + /K + ratio indicating a salt tolerance strategy by Na + extrusion.

Salinity is one of the most limiting abiotic stresses in crop production worldwide. In this study, two rocket cultivars (Cultivada and Folha Larga) were grown in hydroponic system (nutrient film technique) under six treatments. The control comprised a nutrient solution without salt addition, and the other treatments contained different NaCl concentrations in the nutrient solution, resulting in the following electrical conductivities: 1.8, 3.8, 5.8, 7.8, 9.7 and 11.8 dS/m. The experimental design was completely randomized (6x2) with six levels of salt and two rockets cultivars, with four replicates per treatment. Increasing salinity reduced the fresh and dry mass of the leaves, roots, and the protein content, but the proline content was increased. The enzymatic activity of catalase (CAT), ascorbate peroxidase (APX) and polyphenoloxidase (PPO) increased with salinity. The activity of CAT and PPO of cv. Folha Larga was higher than of cv. Cultivada and coincided with a greater production of biomass in leaves and roots, showing the effectiveness of the antioxidative defense system in maintaining the growth of genotypes under increasing salinity of the solution.
