Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the enabling factors and the customers’ acceptance of ride-hailing in Indonesia.
Design/methodology/approach
The authors adopt some constructs from the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) 2 as the framework for the study to derive factors that influence the acceptance of ride-hailing in Indonesia. Samples through a convenience sampling method were collected from an online survey and were transformed into data through coding and subsequently processed using SPSS for descriptive analysis, reliability test, correlation and multiple regression analysis for hypothesis testing.
Findings
Ride-hailing started in 2015 in Indonesia. Five enabling factors make digital ride-hailing possible, the internet, smartphone, broadband wireless network, digital map and global positioning system. The authors found that performance expectancy, social influence and habit positively influence customers to accept ride-hailing in Indonesia.
Research limitations/implications
Although this research has a small sample, it is still relevant to understand people’s acceptance to the ride-hailing platform. As a ride-hailing platform is now transformed to a multisided markets platform, adoption studies or other studies on each market to cover the whole picture of the platform influence to the society, and its contribution to the national economy will be very interesting. The authors’ future research will cover various services covered by ride-hailing companies.
Originality/value
This study proposes and argues that four main enabling factors make digital ride-hailing a viable business. The study contributes to three significant factors that influence the acceptance of ride-hailing in Indonesia.
A leader's effectiveness is affected by the followers' acceptance of the leader as their leader. Followers rely on their cognitive schema to judge whether someone deserves to be considered a leader. This cognitive schema is the implicit leadership theory (ILT) individuals have on the qualities of a leader. When leaders are perceived as conforming to this ILT, they are seen as leaders, and followers accept their influence attempt. This study examined the ILT of Bruneians. The findings indicate that Bruneians are associated with a distinct ILT and shows that gender and personality variables predict the variation in ILT.
Millennial consumer behaviors approach purchasing or shopping things differently when compared to what earlier generations encountered. Each generational cohort shares a common technological, social, political, historical, and economic environment that shapes and distinguishes them from one another and the millennial generation is using social media as a shopping platform. Technology advancement has become far more user-friendly during millennials' lifetimes, as they are attached to the social media given that it has become a platform that is utilized to communicate and shop. The aim of the study is to look at the characteristics of consumers' behaviors as it has a huge impact on the development of new business strategies. This article provides an analytical framework of millennial consumers' behaviors based on previous studies along with data collected from a focus group discussion. The study finds that millennials are more confident compared to earlier generations, more willing to be experimented on and willing to experiment, and are fashionable trend-wise. In terms of technology adoption, millennials have adopted technology as a way of life which makes full use of its functions ranging from communication to entertainment and optimized social media presence is essential for brands that are targeting millennials.
A digital marketplace is a virtual platform that creates values by managing the interaction between two-sided networks or markets, consumers and producers or suppliers to transact. It provides both sellers and buyers to transact cheaply, quickly and conveniently. Digital marketplaces have created significant impacts and disruptions in many industries all over the world. As digital marketplace firms provide innovative and efficient business models, they may disrupt conventional firms that rely on physical interactions. Equip with virtual communications through digital platforms, digital marketplace firms can grow quickly and pose a serious threat to conventional firms. This chapter discusses network externalities, two-sided markets, and value network theories and how these theories can be applied to view digital marketplace firms in setting their expansion strategies. Some digital marketplace business models and how these models operate will also be discussed.

Digital marketplace is a digital platform that facilitates communications and transactions between many sellers and buyers. Developing the digital marketplace is widely used by many business companies to grow their business to attract many local and international customers in order to generate more revenue and maximize values. This chapter presents some development of digital marketplace focusing on the fashion industry. It assessed advantages, disadvantages, and some challenges in the digital marketplace such as managing the growth of the business and customer trust. Among all the products that are purchased online, fashion items are the most famous as many people purchase their clothes through online shopping. The chapter highlights Zalora and FashionValet, the largest and fastest-growing fashion in Southeast Asia.
