In this study, laparoscopic technique was associated with a reduced duration of hospital stay and fewer complications. In addition to being a safe and minimally invasive strategy, it allowed for simultaneous diagnosis and treatment of occult hernias during the same procedure. The approach may be a better option for the treatment of incarcerated OH and occult hernias in selected patients.
Cirsium japonicum DC, a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used as an antihemorrhagic and diuretic agent. The objective of this study was to perform quantitative analysis of flavone by reversed-phase HPLC and examine the anticancer activity of C. japonicum DC in the S180 and H22 mice. Cirsium japonicum DC was separated and purified with several chromatography techniques and two flavone compounds, pectolinarin and 5,7-dihydroxy-6,4'-dimethoxyflavone, were isolated. The content of these two compounds in the methanol, ethanol, and aqueous extractions respectively was determined by HPLC as follows: pectolinarin 1.87%, 1.65%, 1.27%; 5,7-dihydroxy-6,4'-dimethoxyflavone: 0.515%, 0.42%, 0.221%. Furthermore, the effect of the two flavones on the anticancer activity in S180 and H22 mice was studied. Our research shows that these two flavones greatly inhibit cancer cell growth. The rate of inhibiting S180 mice was 55.77% at 50 mg kg( - 1), and the rate of life lengthening was 99.13% at 50 mg kg( - 1) in H22 mice.
This work investigated the ultrasonic assisted oxidative desulfurization of bunker-C oil with TBHP/MoO3 system. The operational parameters for the desulfurization procedure such as ultrasonic irradiation time, ultrasonic wave amplitude, catalyst initial concentration and oxidation agent initial concentration were studied. The experimental results show that the present oxidation system was very efficient for the desulfurization of bunker-C oil and ~35% sulfur was removed which was dependent on operational parameters. The application of ultrasonic irradiation allowed sulfur removal in a shorter time. The stronger the solvent polarity is, the higher the sulfur removal rate, but the recovery rate of oil is lower. The sulfur compounds in bunker-C oil reacted with TBHP to produce corresponding sulfoxide, and further oxidation produced the corresponding sulfone.
Background: MicroRNAs (miRNAs) play crucial roles in the regulation of plant development and growth, but little information is available concerning their roles during grain development under different nitrogen (N) application levels. Our objective was to identify miRNAs related to the regulation of grain characteristics and the response to different N fertilizer conditions. Results: A total of 79 miRNAs (46 known and 33 novel miRNAs) were identified that showed significant differential expression during grain development under both high nitrogen (HN) and low nitrogen (LN) treatments. The miRNAs that were significantly upregulated early in grain development target genes involved mainly in cell differentiation, auxin-activated signaling, and transcription, which may be associated with grain size; miRNAs abundant in the middle and later stages target genes mainly involved in carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism, transport, and kinase activity and may be associated with grain filling. Additionally, we identified 50 miRNAs (22 known and 28 novel miRNAs), of which 11, 9, and 39 were differentially expressed between the HN and LN libraries at 7, 17, and 27 days after anthesis (DAA). The miRNAs that were differentially expressed in response to nitrogen conditions target genes involved mainly in carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism, the defense response, and transport as well as genes that encode ubiquitin ligase. Only one novel miRNA (PC-5p-2614_215) was significantly upregulated in response to LN treatment at all three stages, and 21 miRNAs showed significant differential expression between HN and LN conditions only at 27 DAA. We therefore propose a model for target gene regulation by miRNAs during grain development with N-responsive patterns. Conclusions: The potential targets of the identified miRNAs are related to various biological processes, such as carbohydrate/nitrogen metabolism, transcription, cellular differentiation, transport, and defense. Our results indicate that miRNA-mediated networks, via posttranscriptional regulation, play crucial roles in grain development and the N response, which determine wheat grain weight and quality. Our study provides useful information for future research of regulatory mechanisms that focus on improving grain yield and quality.
Lichtenstein hernioplasty using ACTM grafts has comparable safety and efficacy to traditional high ligation of the indirect hernia sac in adolescent patients. ACTM can reduce the incidence of recurrence in adolescents with Gilbert type 3 hernias.
Sixteen polymorphic primers screened from 100 random primers were selected to analyze the randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) of 540 domesticated black goats (Capra hircas) from 9 different geographical populations in Sichuan Province of China. After the test, 170 entirely repeatable RAPD markers representing goat polymorphisms were obtained from the 16 polymorphic primers, the lengths of the markers ranging from 0.1 to 2.5 kb. The genetic distance among the black goat populations ranges from 0.1051 to 0.2978. The similarity coefficient (0.9002) between Jintang and Lezhi black goats was the highest in the 9 populations, followed by the coefficient (0.8953) between Jialing and Yinshan goats, while that between Jiangan and Huili goats was found to be the lowest (0.7424). The coefficient of differentiation among population genes (Gst) was 0.2766, indicating a comparatively low degree of differentiation among the black goat populations. A UPGMA dendrogram constructed from similarity coefficients showed that the two populations from Huili and Baiyu, which are found mostly on the Western Sichuan plateau and in mountainous areas, clustered together, and the other seven populations formed another group. It can also be clearly seen that the Huili and Baiyu populations are very special, and must have been closely related in the past, even though their link with the other populations is quite weak as a result of genetic communication. The results of the experiment offer some crucial scientific data useful for the breeding of black goats.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
