I1Auf eine zeitraubende und schwierige Auftrennung dieses Gemisches konnte, wie sich herausstellte, verzichtet werden.I n zweiter Reaktion sollte durch Umsatz mit N-Brom-succinimid ein Bromatom mittelstandig eingefuhrt werden (111), wobei als sicher anzunehmen war, daB sich das Reaktionsgemisch weiter komplizieren wurde. Der Erfolg der Bromwasserstoff-Abspaltung rechtfertigte jedoch unser Vorgehen, indem jetzt ein schon kristallisierender C,,-Dicarbonsaureester (IV) isoliert werden konnte. Fur die HBr-Abspaltung erwies sich 2,4,6-Collidin mit einem Zusatz von 4-proc. 3,j-Lutidin als am besten geeignet. Verstandlicherweise l) XXVIII. Mitteilung vorstehend.

Diacetylefi reagiert, wie im folgenden beschrieben wird, als Dimagnesiumbromid-Verbindung mit ungesattigten Aldehyden und Ketonen in normaler Weise unter Bildung von Diin-diolen, ohne gegenuber der entsprechenden Kondensation des Acetylen-dimagnesiumbromids Besonderheiten zu zeigen. Die von uns systematisch untersuchten Reaktionen fuhrten hierbei zu einer neuen Synthese des p-Carotins, nachdem wir im vorigen Jahr bereits drei Auf bauwege zu diesem Naturfarbstoff und Provitamin A auffinden konnten2).Das fur unsere Reaktionen benotigte Diacetylen wurde aus Dichlorbutin nach einer ebenso bequemen wie eleganten Laboratoriumsvorschrift gewonnen, die .uns in dankenswerter Weise von Herrn Prof. Dr. W. Reppe3) zur Verfugung gestellt worden war.Wir beschreiben nachstehend die Kondensationen mit den Ketonen p-Jonon und p-CIS-Keton sowie mit den Aldehyden P-C,,-Aldehyd und P-C,,-Aldehyd.
