We developed the new photo-alignment technology for the large size LCD-TV panel and we named our technology Ultraviolet induced multi-domain Vertical Alignment(UV 2 A).The transmittance, contrast ratio and response time of LCD-TV are drastically improved, because the photo-alignment layer results in uniform surface with pre-tilt. The UV 2 A technology has been successfully applied to our Gen 10 factory.

The presence of ionic charges in a liquid crystal layer causes the generation of residual direct current (dc) voltage (Vrdc) in a liquid crystal cell. Vrdc is one of the most important factors governing the image quality of liquid crystal displays, because the existence of Vrdc causes the image sticking phenomenon. We studied the generation mechanism of Vrdc based on a model of the adsorption and desorption of the ionic charges at the interface between the liquid crystal and alignment layer. In this paper, we propose three evaluation parameters, (i) saturated residual dc voltage, (ii) time to reach its saturation state, and (iii) relaxation time during the open circuit state after applying the external dc voltage, for effective evaluation of liquid crystal and alignment layer materials from the viewpoint of the improvement of the image sticking.

We have developed the novel color filter structure suitable for our transflective 'Advanced TFT-LCD'. In this paper, characteristics of the CF and display performance of improved 'Advanced TFT-LCD' with high display-quality are discussed.

We have successfully developed a LCD for Super Hi-Vision. This LCD has a panel of 7680 by 4320 pixels, which is 16 times as many as that of conventional Full-HD, and it features a diagonal screen size of 85 inches. A single pixel measures 0.245 mm (103PPI). The brightness has been achieved 300 cd/m 2 or higher by using low-load interconnection and UV 2 A technologies. Additionally, the LC charging time has been extended by quad area and double source line structures. Furthermore, we realized the real-time display of huge image data with a transmission rate of 72Gbps by high-definition mounting and high-speed video processing technologies.

Advanced-Super-View (ASV) technology is proposed to achieve high performance TFT-LCDs, in this paper.The ASV-LCDs have high performance characteristics such as high contrast, high brightness, wide-viewing angle, and fast response. The ASV is very promising technology for applications of Audio-Visual Computing.

We have developed bright 260,000-color "High Reflective TFT (HR-TFT) " liquid crystal display (LCD) with diffused "Micro Reflective Structure (MRS)" inside a panel. In this paper, influences of rough surface upon the optical characteristics of the reflective type LCD are discussed. IntroductionFor increasing amount of available information by expanding computer networks, strong demands for mobile information tools such as portable computers and/or personal information tools have been increasing. A reflective type LCD is one of the promising devices in multimedia network society since it has many advantages, namely, its low power consumption, light weight and portability. Moreover, color display function and capability to display moving images are required for a reflective type LCD in the multimedia era. In the above circumstances, realization of color reflective type LCD with high image quality has been expected.
