Research on Islamic products and services has been receiving great attention over the past years. This has attributed to the increasing awareness among Muslims to consume Halal products or served with Shari’ah compliant services. In responding to this development, An Nur Specialist Hospital has initiated to be the first private Shari’ah Compliant Hospital (SCH), through the award of the MS 1900:2014 in April 2015. MS1900:2014 provides guidelines for an organization to be accredited as a Shari’ah compliant organization. The Ministry of Health, Malaysia has introduced ‘ībādah friendly hospital’ in 2010. However, there is lack of research on the characteristics and implementation of SCH in the healthcare industry. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to understand the implementation of SCH at An Nur Specialist Hospital. A qualitative case study is utilised to investigate the issues and implementation of SCH. The case study uses in-depth, open-ended interview with the hospital senior management. The interview was recorded, transcribed, and evaluated based on thematic analysis to understand the practice. The study found major outcomes in implementing SCH, such as the important role of the Shari’ah Advisory Council in ensuring all the Standard Operating Procedures are in line with Shari’ah principles, continuous staff development programs in providing the Shari’ah understanding and latest fatwā on Fiqh Medic. The other outcome is the positive response from patients who have been frequently visiting the hospital due to the status of An Nur as a SCH.

Most scholars agreed that firm age determines firm growth. They claimed that hazard rate will fall with time and firm survival increases with age of the firm. It is because new firms are perceived unable to achieve economies of scale and they rarely have the sufficient managerial resources and expertise. However, prior empirical studies on firm age do not provide conclusive evidence regarding its relationship with performance. Some scholars made another conflicting remarks stating that old firms are not flexible enough to make rapid adjustment, indicating barriers to innovate and make profit. Their organizational rigidities limit their growth by inhibiting change as they become harder to change over time. Older firms are also assumed to own antiquated machines, plants and equipment that limit their capability to innovate. These arguments has raised the interest for researchers to further study issues pertaining to firm age in a variety of contexts including in relation to the business development, technology and social systems. The study attempts to explore the relationship of firm age with intellectual capital, innovation capability and value production. Using a hybrid methodology (Knowledge Based, GAP analysis and AHP approach), the Knowledge-Based CSCM (KBCSCM) system was developed to assist in planning and designing a Collaborative Supply Chain Management (CSCM). The KBCSCM system has a capability to identify variables or factors that need to be improved immediately for supply chain collaboration development. The purpose of this paper is to discuss the approach / methodology that used to identify the key components that are need to be improved in developing a CSCM from the supplier and customer perspective. This paper also demonstrates the use of The Gauging Absence of Prerequisites (GAP) analysis and Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) technique that are embedded in the KBCSCM system, which is used to support the CSCM development. This paper deals with the perspective of auto parts suppliers and customers in the automotive industry on the ability to work together among suppliers, Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and customers in supply chain management (SCM). A case study approach has been used to gather data from 150 respondents in 8 different organisations through KBCSCM system. A series of questions was initially asked, followed by interviews to confirm the answers from respondents. By utilising GAP analysis and AHP technique, management could use the result to design the supply chain collaboration environment. The GAP analysis technique, which embedded in the knowledge-based system, is proposed to analyse the gap between the current and the desirable position (benchmark) for an effective implementation. The proposed framework enables suppliers and customers to identify key factors or issues that have greater improvement priority for supply chain collaboration development.
