In this study, a TiNi/Al6061 shape memory alloy (SMA) composite was fabricated by the hot press method, and pressed by a roller for its strength improvement using the shape memory fiber shrinkage phenomenon. These two kinds of specimens were fabricated with 0% and 5% volume ratio and 0%, 10 % and 20% reduction ratio of TiNi alloy fiber, respectively. A fatigue test has been performed to evaluate the fatigue life for the fabricated TiNi/Al SMA composite as an S-N curve. The results from the Goodman diagram is able to illustrate the failure criterion and fatigue limit between tensile and bending fatigue strength in the fatigue characterization of TiNi/Al SMA composites.

In this paper, the shape design process is briefly discussed emphasizing the use of topology optimization in the conceptual design stage. The basic idea is to view feasible domains for sensitivity region concepts. In this method, the main process consists of two steps: as the design moves further inside the feasible domain using Taguchi method, and thus becoming more successful topology optimization, the sensitivity region becomes larger. In designing a double-eccentric butterfly valve, related to hydrodynamic performance and disc structure, are discussed where the use of topology optimization has proven to dramatically improve an existing design and significantly decrease the development time of a shape design. CFD analysis results demonstrate the validity of this approach.

Shape memory alloy (SMA) has been used to improve the tensile strength of composite materials. Because it produces compressive residual stress in the matrix by using its shape memory effect. In order to fabricate a shape memory alloy composite, TiNi alloy and Al2024, Al6061 were used as reinforcing material and matrix, respectively. In this study, TiNi/Al2024 and TiNi/Al6061 shape memory alloy composites were made by the hot press method. The fatigue limit of a shape memory alloy composite determined the volume ratio and reduction ratio. The probabilistic stresslife curve (P-S-N curve) about the shape memory alloy composite makes up using statistical method.
