In this study, a TiNi/Al6061 shape memory alloy (SMA) composite was fabricated by the hot press method, and pressed by a roller for its strength improvement using the shape memory fiber shrinkage phenomenon. These two kinds of specimens were fabricated with 0% and 5% volume ratio and 0%, 10 % and 20% reduction ratio of TiNi alloy fiber, respectively. A fatigue test has been performed to evaluate the fatigue life for the fabricated TiNi/Al SMA composite as an S-N curve. The results from the Goodman diagram is able to illustrate the failure criterion and fatigue limit between tensile and bending fatigue strength in the fatigue characterization of TiNi/Al SMA composites.
This is a widespread requirement for low cost lightweight thermal imaging sensors for both military and civilian applications. The feasibility of micromechanical optical and infrared (IR) detection using microcantilevers is demonstrated. Microcantilevers provide a simple Structurefor developing single- and multi-element sensors for visible and infrared radiation that are smaller, more sensitive and lower in cost than quantum or thermal detectors. Microcantilevers coated with a heat absorbing layer undergo bending due to the differential stress originating from the bimetallic effect. This paper reports a micromachined silicon uncooled thermal imager intended for applications in automated process control.
Shape memory alloy (SMA) has been used to improve the tensile strength of composite
materials. Because it produces compressive residual stress in the matrix by using its shape memory
effect. In order to fabricate a shape memory alloy composite, TiNi alloy and Al2024, Al6061 were
used as reinforcing material and matrix, respectively. In this study, TiNi/Al2024 and TiNi/Al6061
shape memory alloy composites were made by the hot press method. The fatigue limit of a shape
memory alloy composite determined the volume ratio and reduction ratio. The probabilistic stresslife
curve (P-S-N curve) about the shape memory alloy composite makes up using statistical
method.
This study produced a design curve and fatigue limit for a variation in volume ratio and reduction ratio of TiNi/Al composites. In many cases, stress-life curve does not indicate fatigue limit, so it was presented by probabilistic-stress-life curve. Goodman diagram was used to analyze the fatigue strength of materials with a finite life determined by repeated load and the fatigue strength of endurance limit with an infinite life. The fatigue experiment was conducted using the scenk-type plane bending specimen in same shape. The result of the fatigue test, which had been conducted under consistent stress amplitude, was examined. (i) The optimal condition for TiNi/Al in accordance with hot pressing (ii) Impacts of fatigue limit caused by a variation in reduction ratio and volume ratio of TiNi/Al composites (iii) Probability distribution for fatigue limit of TiNi/Al2024 and TiNi/Al6061.
