Non-resolving pneumonia leading to lung abscess is always a challenge to the treating physician especially in a diabetic patient. Atypical radiological features of lung abscess should raise the suspicion of unusual organisms. This is a case report of a 42 year old diabetic male presented with features suggestive of lung abscess and multiple target organ damage. Subsequent work up revealed that the etiological agent is a rare fungus – Basidiobolus. To the best of our knowledge this is the first case of Basidiobolus lung abscess reported from India.
Ectodermal dysplasia is a hereditary disorder characterized by developmental dystrophies of ectodermal derivatives. It is characterized by triad of signs comprising sparse hair, abnormal or missing teeth and inability to sweat. This case of 12-year-old boy with hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia and complete anodontia of both primary and permanent dentition is presented. Owing to the need for treatment at an early age for anodontia and due to the ill-formed maxillary and mandibular residual ridges, the prosthetic management can be difficult. Complete dentures with soft liners and hollow maxillary denture were provided to encourage normal psychological development and to improve the function of the stomatognathic system.
BACKGROUNDThe aim of the study was to compare the efficacy and safety of intrathecal ropivacaine-fentanyl (RF) with bupivacaine-fentanyl (BF) for lower limb orthopaedic surgeries.
BACKGROUNDMost of the surgeries within the orbit, particularly cataract surgeries are done under regional anaesthesia in day-care surgical centres. Proper selection of patients, thorough pre-operative evaluation and preparation, continuous monitoring during regional anaesthesia are necessary for safe outpatient surgery in the elderly. We compared the efficacy of peribulbar block in cataract surgery using the combination of 1:1 mixture of 2% lignocaine and 0.75% ropivacaine with 1:1 mixture of 2% lignocaine and 0.5% bupivacaine regarding the time required for onset of surgical anaesthesia and quality of postoperative analgesia.
