BACKGROUNDMost of the surgeries within the orbit, particularly cataract surgeries are done under regional anaesthesia in day-care surgical centres. Proper selection of patients, thorough pre-operative evaluation and preparation, continuous monitoring during regional anaesthesia are necessary for safe outpatient surgery in the elderly. We compared the efficacy of peribulbar block in cataract surgery using the combination of 1:1 mixture of 2% lignocaine and 0.75% ropivacaine with 1:1 mixture of 2% lignocaine and 0.5% bupivacaine regarding the time required for onset of surgical anaesthesia and quality of postoperative analgesia.
