Termos para indexação: Uréia, fertilização foliar, Zea mays L. ABSTRACTConsider the most important nutrient in the increment of grain gield and also the proteic level, nitrogen (N), in addition of this fact, this nutrient is the component that most increases the production cost of maize crop. This study aimed to verify whether the application of leaf nitrogen influences the accumulation of proteins and parameters of growth of young plants of maize compared to the application of urea via soil. For both, young plants of the hybrid maize BR 206 received applications of urea as a source of N via leaf and soil at concentrations of zero, 0.5% and 1.0%. The plants were grown in a greenhouse being held three applications of N, the first for six days after the emergency (DAE) in a volume of 10 ml per plant and the following two to 10 and 14 DAE with 20 ml each. At 18 DAE the plants were collected and analyses proceeded. For plant height, root volum, leaf area, dry weigth of leaf area and root, one verified a higher efficiency of leaf fertilization, mainly at 0,5% level of urea. The application of urea 1,0% via soil caused a significative increase in leaf protein levels. These results suggest that leaf fertilization may be an efficient mode to complement what is uptaken by the roots, although it should not be used as a unique source of inorganic N to the plants.
SUMMARYAnnual crop yield and nutrition have shown differentiated responses to modifications in soil chemical properties brought about by gypsum application. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of gypsum application rates on the chemical properties of a Latossolo Bruno (Clayey Oxisol), as well as on the nutrition and yield of a maize-barley succession under no-till. The experiment was set up in November 2009 in Guarapuava, Parana, Brazil, applying gypsum rates of 0.0, 1.5, 3.0, 4.5, and 6.0 Mg ha -1 to the soil surface upon sowing maize, with crop succession of barley. Gypsum application decreased the levels of Al 3+ and Mg 2+ in the 0.0-0.1 m layer and increased soil pH in the layers from 0.2-0.6 m depth. Gypsum application has increased the levels of Ca 2+ in all soil layers up to 0.6 m, and the levels of S-SO 4 2-up to 0.8 m. In both crops, the leaf concentrations of Ca and S were increased while Mg concentrations have decreased as a function of gypsum rates. There was also an effect of gypsum rates on grain yield, with a quadratic response of maize and a linear increase for barley. Yield increases were up to 11 and 12 % in relation to control for the maximum technical efficiency (MTE) rates of 3.8 and 6.0 Mg ha -1 of gypsum, respectively. Gypsum application improved soil fertility in the profile, especially in the subsurface, as well as plant nutrition, increasing the yields of maize and barley.
CHLOROPHYLL AND CAROTENOIDS IN YELLOW PASSION FRUIT PLANTS IRRIGATED WITH SALINE WATER ON SOIL WITH BOVINE BIOFERTILIZERABSTRACT -The deleterious effects caused by salt stress result in changes in the physiological and biochemical mechanisms of plants, changing, among others, the levels of chlorophyll and carotenoids, affecting the photosynthetic activity and hence growth, development, production and adaptability to adverse environments. The study aimed to evaluate the effects of irrigation water with increasing salinity levels and the application frequency of biofertilizer on the concentration of the photosynthetic pigments (chlorophyll a, b, total and carotenoids) of the yellow passion fruit. The experiment was designed in a 5 x 4 factorial corresponding to the levels of electrical conductivity (EC) of the irrigation water of 0.5; 1.5; 2.5; 3.5 and 4.5 dS m -1 and to four frequencies of the application of bovine biofertilizer: no biofertilizer (WB); application of bovine biofertilizer one week before transplanting (1WBT); bio-fertilizer application every 90 days after transplanting (90DAT); and bovine bio-fertilizer applied one week before and every 90 days after transplanting (1WBT+90DAT). Increased salinity of irrigation water reduced the photosynthetic efficiency in leaves of yellow passion fruit, being more drastic in the conductivity above 2.5 dS m -1 . The frequency of application of biofertilizer did not influence the photosynthetic pigments content.
ABSTRACT:Applications of phosphogypsum (PG) provide nutrients to the soil and reduce Al 3+ activity, favoring soil fertility and root growth, but allow Mg 2+ mobilization through the soil profile, resulting in variations in the PG rate required to achieve the optimum crop yield. This study evaluated the effect of application rates and splitting of PG on soil fertility of a Typic Hapludox, as well as the influence on annual crops under no-tillage. Using a (4 × 3) + 1 factorial structure, the treatments consisted of four PG rates (3, 6, 9, ) and three split applications (P1 = 100 % in 2009; P2 = 50+50 % in 2009 and 2010; P3 = 33+33+33 % in 2009, 2010 and 2011), plus a control without PG. The soil was sampled six months after the last PG application, in stratified layers to a depth of 0.8 m. Corn, wheat and soybean were sown between November 2011 and December 2012, and leaf samples were collected for analysis when at least 50 % of the plants showed reproductive structures. The application of PG increased Ca 2+ concentrations in all sampled soil layers and the soil pH between 0.2 and 0.8 m, and reduced the concentrations of Al 3+ in all layers and of Mg 2+ to a depth of 0.6 m, without any effect of splitting the applications. The soil Ca/Mg ratio increased linearly to a depth of 0.6 m with the rates and were found to be higher in the 0.0-0.1 m layer of the P2 and P3 treatments than without splitting (P1). Sulfur concentrations increased linearly by application rates to a depth of 0.8 m, decreasing in the order P3>P2>P1 to a depth of 0.4 m and were higher in the treatments P3 and P2 than P1 between 0.4-0.6 m, whereas no differences were observed in the 0.6-0.8 m layer. No effect was recorded for K, P and potential acidity (H+Al). The leaf Ca and S concentration increased, while Mg decreased for all crops treated with PG, and there was no effect of splitting the application. The yield response of corn to PG rates was quadratic, with the maximum technical efficiency achieved at 6.38 Mg ha -1 of PG, while wheat yield increased linearly in a growing season with a drought period. Soybean yield was not affected by the PG rate, and splitting had no effect on the yield of any of the crops. Phosphogypsum improved soil fertility in the profile, however, Mg 2+ migrated downwards, regardless of application splitting. Splitting the PG application induced a higher Ca/Mg ratio in the 0.0-0.1 m layer and less S leaching, but did not affect the crop yield. The application rates had no effect on soybean yield, but were beneficial for corn and, especially, for wheat, which was affected by a drought period during growth.
Saline stress is a frequent phenomenon in the arid and semi-arid regions of the globe, affecting the agricultural production of these regions, and it is necessary to use strategies that minimize the impacts of saline stress under agriculture. This requires the incorporation of species, variety and genotypes tolerant to increase agricultural production in those regions. This study aimed to evaluate germination and initial growth of cowpea genotypes under salt stress. The experimental design was completely randomized in 19 x 3 factorial scheme, composed of nineteen cowpea cultivars and three osmotic potentials, with four replicates of 50 seeds each. The germination test lasted for eight days, when the seeds were evaluated for germination percentage, germination speed index, length of shoot and root, accumulation of dry mass of shoot and root. The increase in salinity affected germination and initial growth of the cowpea genotypes. The genotypes 6 -MNCO2-689F-2-8, 10 -MNCO2-675F-4-10, 12 -MNCO3-737F-5-9, 16 -MNCO2-677F-2, 18 -BRS-Pajeú and 19 -Paulistinha exhibited higher tolerance to salt stress in the stage of germination and initial growth. The genotypes 11 -MNCO2-675F-9-5, 13 -BRS-Tumucumaque, 15 -MNCO3-736F-7 and 17 -BR17-Gurgueia were more susceptible to the effects of salt stress in the stage of germination and initial growth.
A B S T R A C T Strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa)is a crop that has rapid growth and is highly influenced by fertilization. Due to its development speed, the plant needs to absorb sufficient macronutrients in order to meet its demand. The objective of this research was to evaluate growth and yield of strawberry under different doses of nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) fertilization. The treatments, using Box's central composite design, were distributed in randomized blocks with four replicates and consisted of five N doses (0.16, 0.37, 0.88, 1.4 and 1.6 g plant ) and absence of K. Seedlings of the cultivar 'Oso Grande' were cultivated in 10-L pots. The analysed variables were: plant height, fresh fruit mass, number of leaves, number of fruits, total soluble solids and titratable acidity. The fertilization with N and P increased the values for most of the studied variables. At the highest doses of N and P, K stimulated plant yield.
