AbstractTh is report sums up the results of our research, carried out between the years 2000 and 2009, into the sprinting abilities of year six female students undergoing additional physical education classes. Test results of motor skills are an important source of information which can be further used in structuring the process of physical education and sports training. Moreover, such tests can be widely used in physical education research, in physical training practice and as a means of selecting students gift ed at sports. In total, 104 female secondary school students were tested. In brief, it is possible to conclude that throughout the period of our research, these year six female students had statistically signifi cant diff erences sprinting abilities. Th is is an important fi nding for trainers and teachers as sprinting ability has a great impact not only on other athletic disciplines but also plays a role in other fi elds of sport. Our research results can be compared to those of other year six students of similarly specialized schools in tests of sprinting abilities (50 metres sprint).
Professional publications suggest that there is a gradual decrease in the physical activity of children who prefer less demanding activities, such as computer gaming or watching television. The decrease in the physical activity is accompanied by deterioration of the level of general motor performance and thus it was the aim of this contribution to compare the quantity of the physical activity and the level of coordination abilities of pupils of urban and rural elementary schools. The research group included 30 six-grade pupils (girls) from two rural schools and 25 pupils (girls) from two urban schools. The coordination abilities were tested using standardized tests according to (Broďáni & Šimonek, 2010). The amount of physical activity was also monitored using Actigraph GT3X for a period of 7 days in June under very good weather conditions that allowed a full use of the leisure time. In the six tests that have been done, the girls from urban schools achieved better mean results than the girls attending rural schools; only in two cases (Test No. 3 and 6) the differences found in the individual tests cannot be considered for statistically significant. On the other hand, the results from monitoring the quantity of physical activity during one week show that the girls from urban schools were less physically active than the girls attending selected rural elementary schools.
