BACKGROUND: Maternal knowledge is one of the indirect causes of maternal mortality in Indonesia. Maternal knowledge that mothers must possess includes knowledge about pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum. Maternal knowledge should be provided during pregnancy. The aim of this study is to identify maternal knowledge in postpartum women who have a history of the frequency of pregnancy visits according to the minimum standard. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A descriptive quantitative design was performed by assessing maternal knowledge to postpartum mothers using an online questionnaire which conducted in 2020 at two public health centers of Surabaya, Indonesia. A sample of this research involved postpartum mothers who completed inclusion criteria, namely physiological postpartum mothers and had regular pregnancy at least 6 antenatal care (ANC) visits. In contrast, the exclusion criteria were postpartum mothers who were not included in the target areas of research. It uses random sampling techniques and performs an analysis using descriptive statistics. RESULTS: Three research questions showed a large percentage of wrong answers, namely preparation to face complications (64%), contraceptive methods in breastfeeding mothers (50%) and the first time using contraception during childbirth (42%). Meanwhile, all the correct results (100%) are exclusive breastfeeding and supplementary feeding for babies. CONCLUSION: Completing minimal standards of ANC visits cannot ensure adequate maternal knowledge, particularly crucial health information that influences maternal and neonatal health status.
Adolescence is an important stage the girl’s life which the crucial developmental reproductive such as menstruation and pubertal occur. The peer nowadays has a crucial role in determining the proper health reproductive knowledge due to the lack of information from the family and education system. This study aimed to observe the effectiveness of the trained peer educator compared to the expert educator in delivering reproductive health knowledge. The study was using pre - and post - intervention (quasi - experimental) design. The sample taken by random sampling with the pretest and posttest questionnaire was applied to 98 female students aged 12 to 15 at traditional Islamic boarding school in Sidoarjo, East Java. The participants consisting of 49 students were exposed by the trained peer educator compare to 49 students in which exposed by expert. Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test indicated the significant difference between pretest-posttest in the group were exposed by the trained peer compared by the expert (p=0,001). The Mann Whitney Test indicate there was no significant difference of reproductive health knowledge (p=0,718) between posttest between two groups. In conclusion, the information given by the trained peer educator as effective as the information given by the expert and significantly improved the adolescents' reproductive health knowledge. Therefore, designing the trained peer approach to increase adolescent reproductive health is effective to structure.
AbstractBackgrounds: According to UNICEF, every five babies born there is one baby born to a mother under the age of 19 years. Pregnancy in adolescents aged 15-19 years in developing countries reaches 21 million. Teenage pregnancy was a problem that spread throughout the world and had an impact on maternal and child health. (Mukhopadhyay, 2010), widely deaths caused by pregnancy are the main cause of death for girls aged 15-19 years (WHO, 2017). Adolescents had a high risk of pregnancy complications, one of which is premature labor, IUGR and pre-eclampsia. (Baker, 2007). There has been a 2-fold increase in the risk of complications in adolescent pregnancies versus pregnancies in women in their 20s (Utomo I. D., 2013). Methods: This study were observational analytic method with a retrospective cross sectional approach with 40 samples and was taken by cosecutive sampling technique. Results: Complications in adolescent pregnancy reach 60%. The results of the analysis of the relationship of adolescent pregnancies with complications of pregnancy showed (p value= 0,0100 OR = 6), anemia ( p value 0,013 OR=7,364), nutritional deficiency (p value=0,400), preeclampsia/eclampsia (p value =0,300), labor complications (p value =1,000), sectio caesaria (p value=1,000) dan premature rupture of membrane (p value =1,000)
<p><strong>Background: </strong>Adolescents are a group that is prone to anemia. Anemia is defined as a lower than normal haemoglobin level. The prevalence of anemia in adolescents in Indonesia is the highest at the age group of 15-24 years, 32%. The most common cause of anemia is lack of nutrients needed for erythrocyte synthesis. Substances that play a role in haemolysis are protein, vitamins (folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin C and vitamin E), and minerals (Fe and Cu). </p><p><strong>Objective: </strong>To analyse the intake of protein and iron expected incidence of anemia in adolescent girls. </p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>This study used a systematic review method. The databases used to conduct this research are Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, Portal Garuda and Google Scholar. The keywords used in Indonesian are <em>"Anemia", "Remaja", "Asupan Gizi" </em>or <em>"Nutrisi", "Protein", "Fe" </em>or <em>"Zat besi"</em> and in English are <em>"Anemia", "Adolescent", “Nutritional Intake”, “Ferrous Sulfate”</em> OR <em>“Protein”</em> </p><p><strong>Results: </strong>From several articles that have been reviewed, it is shown that protein intake and Fe (iron) intake of adolescents related to anemia are associated with the incidence of anemia experienced by adolescents. A good protein intake will affect haemoglobin levels in adolescent girls. In addition, intake of Fe (iron) will also affect haemoglobin levels in adolescents. </p><p><strong>Conclusion: </strong>intake of protein and iron will affect haemoglobin levels in adolescents. </p>
Abstrak Latar Belakang :Menarke merupakan kondisi fisiologis berupa menstruasi pertama yang dialami perempuan.
