BackgroundCaregivers are responsible for the home care of family members with mental-health disorders often experience changes in their life that can generate stress and burden. The aim of this study was to identify factors associated with the burden of caregivers of family members with mental disorders.MethodsThis cross-sectional study was conducted with a non-probability sample of family caregivers, whose patients attended a community services program, the Psychosocial Care Centers, in three cities in the southwest region of Goiás State, Central Brazil. Data collection took place from June 2014 to June 2015. The participants were 281 caregivers who completed a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Zarit Burden Interview (ZBI). Bivariate analyses (t test, analysis of variance, and Pearson correlation) were performed, and variables with values of p < 0.10 and gender were included in a multiple-linear regression model. Values of p < 0.05 were considered significant.ResultsThe caregivers were mostly female and parents of the patients, were married, with low education, and of low income. The mean ZBI score was 27.66. The factors independently associated with caregivers’ burden were depression, being over 60 years of age, receiving no help with caregiving, recent patient crisis, contact days, and having other family members needing care.ConclusionsThis study identified factors that deserve the attention of community services and can guide programs, such as family psycho-education groups, which may help to minimize or prevent the effects of burden on family caregivers responsible for patients’ home care.
The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of, and the association between burnout, organizational self-efficacy and self-esteem, and to assess the predictive influence of burnout and organizational self-efficacy on self-esteem among Brazilian teachers during the COVID-19 pandemic. Brazilian teachers (n = 302) between 24 and 70 years old (Mage = 46.75, SD = 11.02) participated in this study. Measurement instruments included a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Burnout Assessment Tool, the Organizational Self-Efficacy Scale and the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale. The prevalence of burnout symptoms was 3.2%, the prevalence of low occupational self-efficacy was 21.5%, and the prevalence of low self-esteem was 2.7%. Significant correlations were found between all variables under study. Hierarchical linear regression analysis showed that overall levels of burnout explained 40% of the variance of self-esteem, while together with organizational self-efficacy, it explained 55%. This study presents evidence of the impact of overall levels of burnout and self-efficacy on teachers’ self-esteem and also contributes to the body of knowledge under construction about the scenario perceived by teachers in Brazil during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Este estudo analisou como acontece a participação de alunos com necessidades educativas especiais (NEE), incluídos na rede municipal de ensino (Jataí, Goiás), nas avaliações que compõem o Ideb. Investigou-se um procedimento de avaliação educacional que tem ganhado espaço no sistema educacional brasileiro: as avaliações externas. Desenvolveu-se pesquisa bibliográfica, documental e de campo. Selecionou-se seis escolas, e aplicou-se questionário e entrevista. Os resultados encontrados revelaram que: a maioria das respondentes compreende a avaliação como positiva para a melhoria da qualidade da educação; a participação dos alunos com NEE na avaliação que compõe o Ideb é efetiva, mas não há diferenciação das avaliações para os que têm NEE; o tempo adicional para a realização da prova escrita, previsto na legislação, raramente é utilizado; e as escolas preparam esses alunos para fazerem a Prova Brasil, mas sem perder o foco nos conteúdos específicos da avaliação governamental, o que não garante o êxito final.
