This paper reports Turkish and Chinese parents’ experiences with their 3–6 year-old children during the COVID-19 quarantine process. Thirteen Turkish and 11 Chinese parents participated in a study that employed semi-structured interviews to examine participant self-perceived experiences. Findings show that the study revealed many commonalities in the experiences of Turkish and Chinese parents with their children during the COVID-19 quarantine process. Cultural differences between parents did not appear to significantly reflect the responses of parents during this extraordinary period. Parents mostly described difficulties with home quarantine. Most parents stated that their daily schedule and routines had changed as a result of home quarantine. Parents also said that they were unaware of their children’s developmental progress and the extent to which their children had grown up before the quarantine. Parents shared both positive and negative experiences during the process. Since the quarantine process is an extraordinary experience for all family members, parents should be encouraged to put those positive experiences and acquisitions into their future life.
Bu araştırmanın amacı, okul öncesi öğretmenlerinin mesleki tükenmişlik düzeyleri ile örgütsel sinizm tutumları arasındaki ilişkinin incelenmesidir. Tarama modelindeki bu çalışmanın katılımcılarını, seçkisiz örnekleme yöntemiyle belirlenen 408 okul öncesi öğretmeni oluşturmuştur. Çalışmada, veri toplama araçları olarak Kişisel Bilgi Formu, Maslach Tükenmişlik Envanteri-Eğitimci Formu ve Örgütsel Sinizm Ölçeği kullanılmıştır. Araştırmanın veri analizinde bağımsız örneklemler için t testi, Tek Faktörlü ANOVA ve Pearson korelasyon analizi gibi parametrik testler kullanılmıştır. Mesleki tükenmişliğin Duygusal Tükenme boyutu ve duyarsızlaşma boyutu ile örgütsel sinizmin kurumdan uzaklaşma, performansı düşüren etkenler, okula karşı olumsuz tutum, kararların alınmasına katılım boyutları ve sinizm ölçeğinin genel toplamı arasında pozitif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Mesleki tükenmişliğin Kişisel Başarı boyutu ile örgütsel sinizmin kurumdan uzaklaşma, okula karşı olumsuz tutum, kararların alınmasına katılım boyutları ve sinizm ölçeğinin genel toplamı arasında negatif yönde anlamlı bir ilişki bulunmuştur. Mesleki tükenmişliğin Kişisel Başarı boyutu ile örgütsel sinizmin performansı düşüren etkenler boyutu arasında ise bir ilişki bulunmamıştır.
Teaching in early childhood classrooms is a female-dominated job all over the world. The aim of this study is to compare male and female pre-service early childhood teachers' sense of self-efficacy. The study sample of 451 pre-service teachers consisted of 231 female and 220 males. The Turkish-language version of the Teachers' Sense of Efficacy Scale (TTSES) was used for data collection.The results indicate a significant difference between the male and female respondents' overall sense of self-efficacy, as well as their sense of self-efficacy relating to the specific area of classroom management. However, no significant differences were found in males' and females' sense of self-efficacy with regard to student engagement or instructional strategies.
