The subculture of urban global popular-culture youth fans is believed to be a resistance-subculture against the hegemony of dominant power. This study, however, found that the subculture given rise to by the urban, global popular-culture youth fans of ‘the Mortal Instruments’ in Indonesia is in opposition to the Neo-Gramscian thought which has become the foundation of popular-culture studies. In constructing their identity, some of the digital fandoms of global popular culture have been critical of the content of cultural texts as a form of resistance against texts produced by cultural industries. However, they have only been developing artificial forms of resistance within the system, that is, in fan sites. This study found that the urban youths joining digital fandoms are not free from the hegemony of capitalism because they have become playlabourers, engaging in free digital labour for the powers of the global culture industry. This critical attitude of urban youths, in building their digital fandom-subculture identity, is incapable of standing against the system. They even position themselves within the network of cultural-industry capitalism – identified by the Frankfurt School as the domination and superiorization of the industry power of global entertainment that is continually self-restoring.

In 2004 Election, Indonesian government launched a policy mandatory 30 percent female representatives in the legislature. This is an effort to accelerate an increase of women’s representativeness in the parliament. This research describes the imaging of women as politicians in Indonesian online news sites: detikcom, Kompas.com, and Tribunnews.com. Van Dijk’s critical discourse analysis was utilized as method of this research with feminist critical analysis as the  corresponding method. The result shows that the imaging of female politicians is in the domestic area. They are pictured as emotional and weak persons.

YouTube, as a new social media platform, has become “viral” in Indonesia since 2010. Many Indonesian youths have become popular as YouTubers (users of YouTube who actively upload videos on YouTube). Data from Google Marketing indicate that Indonesia is the country with the largest population by viewing time on YouTube in the Asia Pacific in 2015. YouTube is also the most viewed social media site in Indonesia (data by Alexa.com, 2016). One of the famous Indonesian YouTube channels is Last Day Production (also known as LDP), which regularly uploads situational dramas, skits, and parodies. All of the cast members in LDP videos are young Chinese-Indonesians under 30 years old. On the eve of Indonesian National Day of 2016, LDP uploaded the video entitled Tipikal Anak Muda Indonesia (Stereotypes of Indonesian Youths). The video portrayed how Indonesian youth now envisage their nationalism. LDP created this video in collaboration with young famous Indonesian YouTubers and musicians such as Eka Gustiwana, Aulion, and Kevin Anggara. This video later trended in Indonesia around August 2016. This article uses the approach of cyberculture theory and utilizes visualizing methods. Unit analyses of this research are the viral video, text, music, and whatever else the LDP have portrayed in the video.

The rapid development of the digital age has led humans to adapt new habits in communication. Communication activities are even very easy to do through digital platforms such as Instagram social media. Virtual communication activities conducted through halal culinary content are considered capable of creating information exchange. It is this exchange of information that makes participation happen virtually. Participation can not be considered as an activity without meaning, but when participation is done repeatedly, then the participation activity becomes a form of culture that has a certain meaning and interest. This research reveals virtual communication conducted by Muslim Instagram users who are actively producing kulier (Muslim foodgram) content through halal culinary content. The virtual ethnographic method was used by researchers to examine Henry Jenkins' theory of participation culture combined with smith's concept of researcher meaning. Based on the results of the study conducted for approximately eight months, researchers obtained data that virtual communication activities conducted by Muslim foodgrams are divided into several forms of participation such as affiliation, expression, collaboration, and circulation. not only a form of participation, researchers found that participation activities carried out by Muslim foodgrams through virtual communication occur continuously to form a culture. Participation culture formed from virtual communication activities include participation based on appreciation, participation based on existence, participation based on pleasure. The establishment of a culture of participation in virtual communication turns out to contain several meanings such as reputational interests, self-image, awards, hobbies, to careers.Perkembangan era digital yang semakin pesat telah membawa manusia pada adaptasi kebiasaan baru dalam berkomunikasi. Aktifitas komunikasi bahkan dengan sangat mudah dilakukan melalui platfoam digital seperti media sosial Instagram. Aktifitas komunikasi virtual yang dilakukan melalui konten kuliner halal dianggap mampu menciptakan pertukaran informasi. Pertukaran informasi inilah yang membuat adanya partisipasi terjadi secara virtual. Partisipasi tidak bisa dianggap sebagai aktifitas tanpa makna, tapi ketika partisipasi dilakukan berulang kali, maka aktifitas partisipasi menjadi bentuk budaya yang memiliki makna dan kepentingan tertentu. Penelitian ini mengungkap komunikasi virtual yang dilakukan oleh para pengguna Instagram muslim yang aktif memproduksi konten kulier (foodgram muslim) melalui sebuah konten kuliner halal. Metode etnografi virtual digunakan peneliti untuk mengkaji teori budaya partisipasi Henry Jenkins yang dikombinasikan dengan konsep makna peneliti dari Smith. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian yang dilakukan selama kurang lebih delapan bulan, peneliti mendapatkan data bahwa aktifitas komunikasi virtual yang dilakukan oleh foodgram muslim terbagi menjadi beberapa bentuk partisipasi seperti affiliation, expression, collaboration, dan circulation. tidak hanya bentuk partisipasi, peneliti menemukan bahwa aktifitas partisipasi yang dilakukan oleh foodgram muslim melalui komunikasi virtual terjadi terus-menerus hingga membentuk budaya. Budaya partisipasi yang terbentuk dari aktifitas komunikasi virtual meliputi participation based on appreciation, participation based on existence, participation based on pleasure. Terbentuknya budaya partisipasi dalam komunikasi virtual ternyata mengandung beberapa makna seperti kepentingan reputasi, citra diri, penghargaan, hobi, hingga karir.

Purpose of study: This paper aims to re-questioning the positions of Indonesia's woman ministers in the internet citizen's perspectives on responding to the news related to those woman ministers. Methodology: The current study used a qualitative research design. The multimodal analysis has been used as a key to implement analysis on a conversation on the internet. Using the pattern of Herring, the researcher has used the data from the Facebook comments section on the official web page of Detik.com, the pioneer of Indonesia's online news site from 1 January – 31 December 2017. Digital Discourse Analysis has been used to analyze those digital actions then coded, and classified. Result: The obtained results show that there is a prominent separation between the ministers who own political powers and those who are considered not possess strong power in Indonesia's political arena. Implications/Applications: In observing those digital actions, this article will utilize limited mapping on Facebook commentary section on the official web page of Detik.com, the pioneer of Indonesia's online news site.
